Dear Brother I teake [take?] up my pen answ[er?]
yours of 12 April I receive By John Mcurdy [McCurdy?]
and was verry [very?] Glad to hear that you were all well
But Sorry to hear of poor Jonathans Death although it
was what I expected. the Day that he went with
me to Balymena [Ballymena?] I shedd [shed?] a great many
tears I knew that I nere [never?] would see him again I
Live in the Corner of Lombard Street & 12
and am doing a verry [very?] good buisness [business?]
in th[e?] Distilley [Distillery?] & holsale [wholesale?]
Liquer [Liquor?] Buisness [Business?] & I took John
Mcurdy [McCurdy?] when he came here to my house and he
has made it his home ever since and I have emploid
[employed?] him to Live with me and he is a very Good
young man and if your Son Bober [Robert?] or any of your
famely [family?] comes to this country the[y?] will find
a home at my house which is as well furnished as your
Landlords and a little bethe [better?] I think I
Bought the hous- [house?] & Lot for $2500 two tho-sand
[thousand?] five hundred Dollars & I am offered 3000 for it Dr
[dear?] Brother I have met with a great many
losses since I was in Ireland I have Lost upwards
of one thousand pounds that is 5000 Dollars but
the[y?] Could not make me fail as yet my standing
in society is as Good as it was and I am able to
keep a hansom horses & carrige [carriage?]
for my family to ride in w-ich [which?] is 2 as hansom

as in the City of Philade [Philadelphia?] our oldest,
Little william Died when he was 14 months old he was
a very smart Child we have one daughter mary Ann 2
years & 9 months old and although I Say it ther[e?]
is not 2 Smarter or handomeer [handsomer?] Cildern
[Children?] in the world I think Little mary ann
every evening w-en [when?] saying her prayers promes [sic]
for Granfather [Grandfather?] in Irland [Ireland?]
She Loves hor [her?] pappy & says God bless her
pappys pap in Ireland, I have one sovern [sovereign?]
in my draure [drawer?] there arn [are?] not verry
[very?] plenty that is english Coin I Send it with
Robert McKinney to my poor old father for pocket
money give my love to him in the kindes[t?] manner
and if hee [he?] is alive tell him to pray for m[e?]
and I hope he will be mindfull [mindful?] of his own
Latter end and pray for himself as he cannot be Long
on the world as I Shall never see him I hope wee [we?]
will all meet in heaven is the Sincer- [sincere?]

Campbell McGomery [Campbell Montgomery?] & family
did not Come to Philada [Philadelphia?] th[ey?]

with John Mc [McCurdy?] & Stayed only one night and
James Came her[e?] 4 Dayes [Days?] after he Bought a
farm for his father at a place Called vevic on the
ohiah [Ohio?] river near Luisvill [Louisville?] for
1200 Dollars & if you would think of Coming out her- [here?]
and Doing the same it would be the best thing that you
could Do But I do not advis- [advise?] as you would think
