My darling Mamma
My day was quite spoiled
by not hearing from you yesterday - I hope you
are well. I am fine - David goes into Dr. Smith's
today to a meeting of the [Philosophical?] society -
It is a nice frosty morning. Another hen started
to lay to-day - I hope you are interested in these
exciting bits of news - I got an invitation to tea
at the Robinsons on Friday, but I am declining.
I am glad I have a good excuse to stay home -D.
[David?] is going to spend the day with his father &
mother - he will come back the same night - He
has never left me a single night since you left
he is very good and dutiful to me.
Dr [Tatchell?] held his great evangelical meeting
last night & blithered for 40 minutes. D. [David?]
will speak next Sunday - I wish Dr T [Tatchell?]
had left D [David?] out of it as it spoils our
nice Sunday evening & then he must also have a
Thursday evening service as well - I am sure Dr
T [Tatchell?] would have been edified if he
could have heard his brother ministers references
to the meeting before he went out to it.
D. [David?] got the old man some nice shirts both
flannel & cotton but he will not change his old
dirty one - he just loves dirt naturally he is like a
fish out of water when he is clean. Don't you
be breaking your neck to get back next month
as there is no need of you working yourself to
death to get back so soon - I am very well so
don't worry about me - The farm is getting on
nicely & D. [David?] is fattening some cattle which
promise to sell well in the spring - Everything
is going on nicely - D. [David?] got a letter from Mr
Dillon & has taken his B.A. degree. He asked
D. [David?] in his letter if he has heard that Dr
Osbourne?] of Rutland Sqr [Square?] was the new
proposed under secretary - If he is appointed
Rutland Sqr [Square?] will be vacant - & I think
D [David?] would have a good pull there - at all
events we can afford to wait & see - It would be
a great thing for all of us if D. [David?] could
get a fine Dublin ch [church?] like [Rutland?]
Sqr [Square?] & a beautiful house in Mountjoy Sqr
[Square?] but that is still in the clouds.
With love & hugs & kisses
Your dearest little girl
Arthe
