| Transcript | [Front of envelope] Mr James Alex Smyth, South Woodslee Lock Box 4, Essex County, Ontario, Canada [Back of envelope] [Stamped] PLUMBRIDGE JU 28 94 [Stamped] HAMILTON JY 10 94 CANADA [Written at top] Ans July 13 1894 [Page1] Castledamph June 28th 1894 Dear Brother, In answer to your letter which we received on the 22nd we are all well, hoping you are the same I suppose this is one of your examinations (sic) days its likely you are busy at this time and I hope you will be successful write as soon as possible and let us know how you done There is another America man landed home yesterday, Harkness McKelvey a brother of George's Jamey's but I suppose you do not remember him he will be here again Friday evening he is a [Page 2] Master of an Orange Lodge in America he was telling Willie Gilkison that Lizzie McKernan was married there He came by Liverpool and was speaking to Uncle Willie he told him he would be over here about the Plum fair but he is coming so often and has not got the length yet that you cant heed what he says He told him that one of his sons was married but we dont know which one it might be the one that was here for he was pretty through going There must be bad times in America now for there is a great deal coming home and it is not a good sign [Page 3] We have got a few days of good weather here now the turf will come some speed if it stands for a while we have put ours up in crows nests out of the barrows and did not spread them at all we have the turnips all in we got them in easy this year we got the lend of Houstons sewing [sowing?] machine and we had no bother they are at the potatoes this last two days hoeing and moulding them up Uncle James got in his turnips too he is doing well since he was married. She is the oldest daughter of William McFarland There is no settled place where they are going on the twelfth I dont think these [Page 4] ones will go to Strabane but the others is all going the band is going up Eden road again Friday night and over the hill and away round that road. We are asked to a party this evening to McClellands Eden four of us the yankee will be there and the [they?] will have Daniel so I suppose it will be a good evening James Young of the home is getting a legacy now 15 hundred pound a sister that was married and died in America No more this time Bella M Smyth written in a hurry |
