Castledamph Dec 21st 1893

Dear Brother
In answer to your
letter which we received on
the 18th inst we are glad to know
that you are all well as this
leaves us at present
We have very rough weather
here now there was some
snow fell last night but it is
all away the day [today?] again the ball
got a very good evening but
the next morning was a little
wet we had a good night
all through the band gathered
a little early and went down

[Page 2]
the road a bit there was
a very good gathering about
sixty seven payable men
along with the ladies there
was £5 12s collected and it
was all consumed in liquor
and there never was a cross
word from night till morning
plenty of dancing and singing
I think they were sore enough
on Daniel anyway I dont think
there was hardly one left till
seven ocock [o clock?] in the
morning there was four of the
Beatties up them [there?] and
the three stewards stayed till
the evening

[Page 3]
Uncle Charles and Aunt was
over but they went away in the
morning along with the rest
from Gortin it was a quiet
night all through there was
a good deal objected too about
here and they are not in very
good humour but I suppose
they know what it is for
We have not got our
flax done yet the half was
done about a week ago but
he did not go with it till he
would have the whole of it
we got a ticket for £3 10s per
cut so he does not know whether
he will get any more or not

[Page 4]
We were sorry to hear of
you having to stop work
with your arm. but I hope it is
better by this time you ought
to (sic) watched it better I suppose
Uncle is in good enough health
now I had a letter from
Cassie last week I did not
answer it yet we are sending
you a card of the Ball but
it will not do you much good
now there is not much talk
about Christmas this year
No more at present

Bella M Smyth

Good Bye [Goodbye?]
