Ontario Canada [Postmarked] NEWTOWNSTEWART PM 10 0 [---?] [Postage Stamp] [Postage?] and Inland Revenue [Back of Envelope] [Stamped] ESSEX SP25 00 ONT [Stamped] PLUMBRIDGE A SE 13 00 [Page 1] Castledamph Sep. 13th 1900 Dear Brother I think we have delayed in writing to you this last week: but perhaps you wont mind it so much now when you are at work again We rec" [received?] a letter from you yesterday & we see by it that your holidays are near ended but I think you enjoyed yourself pretty well. Belle is here now or I may say most of her time: anyway but she is kept busy running around. She came here on Tuesday 4th"" & then Aunt Beck sent an invitation to go there on Wed" & stop till Sunday, but Belle could not afford to stop so long so [her?] & I went over & stopped till Friday morning & then Wm [William?] took us on to Strathroy we stopped there till Sunday night [Page 2] we had a good time in both places Wed" was Gortin fair so Belle & I went through the fair she will be able to tell you how they sell the sheep: she also saw some drunk people in the evg" [evening?]and she saw Joe Stewart there on Thursday we went to [view?] The Dark Loughs: above Gortin we could see six at one time, Belle thought them very nice. Friday morning we started for Strathroy arrived there about twelve o-clock then at night we drove into town to an entertainment in. The Ulster Hall: Aunt, Sara.& Willie John went with us. I send you a paper clipping so you can see what it was like & Belle can tell you, Sat we went into town again & Belle went to see Joe Duncan: Beck & Alex was there: she says he is pretty well & will soon get home:. we also went through the new Catholic Church it is very grand. Sunday we went to Church & home in the evg [evening?]: Willie Sara Aunt left us at, Rest & be thankful they were to come down here before Bell [Belle?] would go away [Page 3] Monday we were home & Miss Graham was here she is Mrs Nelson’s dressmaker Tuesday Belle, Mary, Liza, John, Tom & Martha Duncan went to the mote they enjoyed it well, yesterday Belle, Mary, Liza & Wm, [William?], drove to [Sperrin?] & they stopped with Tilda till bedtime And to-day Mary is away to work Belle is away over to Aunt Matilda this is only the second time for her to go there & she does not intend to stop as her & Martha & Willie John is invited to Mr McClellands [Oughdwee?] to-morrow & they intend to go to the top of [Dart?] & [Sawell?] so I believe she is missing no place. There is some talk of Alice Duncan & Sam Ballantine getting married they were to be married on Tuesday but was [sic] not Belle wishes they would while she is here, she will be around here next week so I suppose after that it will be farewell, as they will sail on the 5th Oct She says she will go down to the Plum [Plumbridge?] fair on Monday & stop with [Page 4] Mary, so she will be able to give a full account of the fair She had a letter from Cassie today only a few lines to send the flax. it frightened her when she opened it & saw a white sheet of paper we will try & send all you want if possible She crossed the burn to-day & she said she would remember it right enough for she crossed that way often Sara, Martha, Willie John & Belle was here one evg [evening?] while they were over there we had a [pretty?] good time Sara is at home now I cant say whether she will come up again or not We have the corn all cut & six stacks in but we have'nt a large quantity this year so we will get over it easier Since Belle came the weather was nearly always cloudy but it has cleared since Saturday [Page 5] And its as nice since as anyone would want it & warm enough too but I believe its nothing too [to?] what it would be over there There was a pair dissapointed [disappointed?] of running away on Sunday I expect Belle may tell you of it anyway It appears Willie [Hargan?] fell in love with Annie McKernan and I suppose she thought she would get no better on account of what happened her before So on Sunday they two started up the hill for Alex Hargans near Gortin & then they intended to go to Scotland Tuesday night [Page 6] But some how Willie Barker happened to see them [&?] followed he overtook them before they reached the top & ordered her home, she would.nt come & Hargan wouldnt let her but with some blows on both sides she had to come home & Hargan had to come without her it is the talk of the place now and there.were some spyglasses used to see the fun so she may have a hot time now & she deserves far more for she is a disgrace to all belonging to her I expect if Alice & Sam go together they will have [Page 7] a poor time too, as there is anger on both sides but I suppose they will make for Scotland too. Belle will be apt to know to-day if its true I forgot to tell you that Aunt Beck got your Photo & letter while we were there & was well pleased with you for the trouble & Lizzie says she would know you, she has got to be a fine girl and a good singer [Page 8] [We?] got no word from T [Thomas?] Hay yet something must have happened him I must stop now as its post time So Good Bye and by the time this reaches you we will have said Good Bye to Belle 'Your Sister Bella M |
