Handwritten Bell s Wedding Castledamph Dec 9th 1901 Dear Brother I suppose you will be expecting a letter before this reaches you But you will have to excuse us as we were busy enough Well we have got Bella married on Thursday the 5 Dec we had a grand day I hardly know where to begin to tell you all. Sara & Willie Duncan came down Wed night Davey was here also Tilda Jamey Uncle Jame [James?] & Maggie Jane I wrote a little bit to Mary that night Bella finished it that night or next morning I dont know which We had a hurried morning to have all done before they [the?] people came I left here about 9:30 went down to Lisnacreight [Lisnacreaght?] Wm [William?] drove down pretty quick Miss Cole & Miss Ashfield Andy McClelland & old Jane Orr were here before I left I did not like to leave but I could not [over?] it. I missed them leaving here as well as you too Their [There?] was 7 cars left here 4 on each & he had three so you can count the folk I will give a list of who was here for dinner later on Started from here about a quarter to twelve After they were Married we had a drive round to [Kilimore?] Bridge & up by Gortin got home about [3:30?] such a gathering coming up the road you would think they never would get in Sandy Houston said he never was here since the morning you left first so that is quite a while he came here in the morning with Uncle Charlies ones we had a good night Dancing & games and some songs by Jas [James?] Houston Lizzie Hay Maggie Uncle Chas [Charles?] they [the?] Miss Dunbars & Wm [William?] some recitations by David Dunbar & Jas [James?] Houston Sandy & James kept up the fun all night you would not think they were so merry also Uncle Charlie I never saw him in better humour I dont think those who were here will regret coming as it was a splendid night. not a cross word was spoken by anyone We had to part with Bella & all about six oclock next morning & I tell you it was a sore trial I didnt think Mary going away half so bad as I expect her back the same but when Bella had to go it was a farewell same times will never come with her Five cars left in the morning I will tell you who stayed after they left Old Moses & Jane Tilda Andy McClelland Constable Willie [Wee?] Mosey & Jamey these stooped [stopped?] to near eight. Willie & Sara stayed untill [until?] after Dinner today now we are left alone no one here but Father Mother & I John came home Wed left here this morning so you may think we have some hard times one going after the other John Tom & Willie Duncan were down in Houston's yesterday evg [evening?] Jas. [James?] Plum B. [Plumbridge?] was there likely but Bella will think it as strange as we will & I will miss her badly I just wish Mary was here. do you think will she stop over there or does she intend to join anything She seems sorry to hear of this & her so short a time away but it could not be helped We did not know if it would come true so we didnt want to mention it you need not blame Bella as she was not sure when you were home or you would have heard it I had a thought of telling you sometime but I never had courage enough to face the subject when you were here. Mary & I used to talk of it if it would come true after so much talk but still I had not the least thought it would be untill [until?] Mary would come back Nor I am sure neither it would if the Servant girl had done her business right You will likely wonder where we got money to spend now but we had plenty Bella is to get 50£ we will have to save up from this forward now I will give you the names of those who we had Brides party James Gilkison John & Tilda Willie Ballantine & family Uncle James & Aunt & family Uncle Charles & Aunt & family Bob McKernan Lizzie & Bella Andy McClelland Miss Cole Miss Ashfield Mr McCullagh & wife & family Miss Dunn Willie Houston & Sandy I think this was her party all grooms party John Houston & wife & son J R Smyth & Wife David Dunbar Wife & family Jas [James?] Plumbridge & myself I forgit [forget?] we had Liza Houston & Mary Mother seems a bit sorry but she will soon get over it Tilda is just in talking over it all & there is some tears falling at this present time I feel it badly but I must bear up as I would not like mother to see me I could tell you far more but good bye [goodbye?] for this time Liza C sending you a paper you will see the marriage in it Transcribed by Alan Houston |
