This should have been coronation Day but everything has gone wrong. What dissappointments are everywhere. The King seems to be in a bad enough state according to the papers We had word on Tuesday eve of the coronation being postponed, Master James was here, well he wouldn't beleive [believe?] it he said it was only a hoax But yesterday the news was [Page 2] everywhere to [too?] true indeed. Mr Steen preached a sermon Sunday on the coronation He had been asked to [join?] McFadden & White & all those with the picnic which was to take place today I don't know if he was afraid of the money or what but he said his [opinion?] was that this should be a week of prayer. Conscientiously, he said he could not go in for pleasure & rejoicing Well now you see he has been right. He will need to pray more than he expected or rather on another account. [Page 3] Their [There?] is quite a bit of news around this place at present. Women leaving their Husbands is the rule of the day Alice & Sam have parted another time on Tuesday. Yesterday Alice & Sarah Elkin went for the police. Well if you had seen Sarah & Alice & the policeman going over to get her belongings. Elkin's cart went and brought what she could claim her own I hear Sarah's tongue went quick all day. I doubt Alice was to blame this time again. Anyway they give the country plenty of sport watching & listening to them [Page 4] yesterday. John Butt & his wife have separated last week. And another couple at Plumbridge gave each other a cracking all through drink. Matthew has been awarded £10 for his little house I will send some papers so you can see, Tyrone Constitution has a great bit about the MacCullaghs [MacCullochs?] so don't fail to see it as Chas. [Charles?] Mc said to send it to you We went to the excursion to Warrenpoint one thing I saw was Ireland is well represented in in [sic] more so than any place ever I was in yet I sent a few cards from there I am sending you some work to do on behalf [Page 5] of Dr Barnardo's Homes. I got two letters one from Miss James and the other from Miss McKnight so I have to make six copies & I dont find enough folk around here so I'll just put you to the trouble. John Chas [Charles?] was coming home last night but he was like all others. dissappointed badly, they had three Union Jacks [Jack] flags ready but they may come in useful again. The Orangemen are for Douglas this year. Plumbridge will surely get a visit next year We have lovely weather here since Sunday its near [Page 6] time to improve as we have had more rain than was wanted Wm [William?] & Tom are at the turf today we are pretty near done for fireing, if wet weather had continued much longer we would have a famine for turf I suppose Mary's exam is near at hand now, if she fails I expect she will come home not much use in her staying there any longer. unless she starts anew.
