| Transcript | [Front of envelope] Miss Bella Maggie Smyth Castledamph Plumbridge Co Tyrone Ireland [Stamped] SOUTH WOODSLEE DEC 30 96 [Stamped] LONDONDERRY JA 12 96 [Back of envelope] [Stamped] NEWTOWNSTEWART JA 13 96 [Page 1] South Woodslee Dec 31 1895 Dear Sister In answer to your letter which I received a short time ago I am glad to know that you are all well I received a letter from Willie Gilkison last night also the Irish Times and a Sentinel I dont know who sent it as there is no name on it [Page 2] I thought I told you long ago how far Essex was from here it is [5 1/2?] miles Eng [English?], I can walk it in an hour and a half I did not remember to tell you about the trunk. It never was opened untill [until?] I opened it in the house so nothing was tossed in any way The shirts fit all right just as good as could be Willie tells me they got read out for £43 --- that (sic) very good keep it up and it will be all right I am in a hurry to get this letter wrote to get it sent away this morning [Page 3] so it is not a very nice one We have a cold day this morning it snowed all day yesterday and we had a good snow balling [snowballing?] last night. Willie John is here now so me and him gave it to the girls We all got weighed yesterday Willie John weigh [weighs?] 153 lbs or 10 st 13 lb and I weigh 179 lbs or 12 st 11 lb so I am [have?] got very heavy since I came out here. School starts again Monday so work will start for me then. I will write to Willie [William?] Gilkison this week [Page 4] I suppose you have a good time at that singing Class but I don't think They all go to [learn?] Uncle and Aunt (sic) all the rest are well The [girls?] and Willie and Allison Young (sic) folk were down at Annie's on Christmas. I did not go down I had not much fun here alone I spent the night reading that war news that I am sending you You don't believe all that that United States paper says about the War. I don't think the Yankees will make so much of it if the war starts.
