Dear Father & Mother

In reply to [your?]
letter of May 27th I am
glad to know that you are
all in good health.
I have just finished writing
a little note to the Orangemen
I expect it will be there before
the twelfth of July I enclose
it in the same note as this
so some of you can read it
to them. I was always
for writing but I thought
I would wait & send it in
time for the twelfth

[Page 2]
I have not said very much
except what is common I
was afraid to say much for
for [sic] fear the [they?] would get offended
I toched [touched?] slightly on what I
wanted to say. I hope they [there?]
will be no disputing amongst
them this year, I will go
with the Orangemen this year
They are going to a place
called Wheatly [Wheatley?] about
20 miles from here If I did not go
this year & be trying my
examination next year I
could not go as that is one
of the days, We have had
three examinations this week
for promotion into the higher
forms I will enclose the

[Page 3]
papers in this letter for Mary
She can have a look over
them The other set are next
week and Government
exams the following week
on the remaining subjects
I think I took good marks
on these three & the subjects
for next week are Grammar
Literature Composition &
Latin. I expect to take
good marks on these as they
are my best subjects
The Government is the hardest
but if one fails they can
take the two together next
year, quite a few is doing that
this year, I hope you will
get over that row alright
I am afraid some of you will
get into trouble If you do not
watch

[Page 4]
I would advise you do as
little fighting and [law?] as
possible, Keep out of rows
hard to tell what might
happen, I am sorry to hear
of Charles Gordons death, he
did not last long I had
no notion he would die so
soon, I was down at Uncles
last Saturday but did not
go down to-day as I had
these letters to write & I wanted
it done School closes on
Tuesday week Then we have
a week out & come back and
write [on?] our exam, Fine hot
weather here. Give me all the
news, I think this is enough
I am getting tired writing
Jas A [James Alexander?] Smyth
I will send Mary all the
papers as I get them
