Tyrone Ireland [Stamp] SOUTH WOODSLEE AP 19 00 ONT [Back of envelope] [Hand written] Arrived April 30th 1900 Monday W.G [Burns?] [Stamp] NEWTOWNSTEWART AM AP 23 00 South Woodslee, April 17/00 Dear Sister, Your letter to hand last week and I am pleased to know that your [you] are all in the enjoyment of health again I am sorry however to hear of James McKelvey's death as it is a serious loss to Annie. I am sure she will feel it much with everything left on her hand [sic] together with a large family. Notwithstanding the differences between you and them, I am glad to know that you decided to attend the funeral. I see you have got a letter From T. [Thomas?] Hay. I wonder if he ever got mine which I sent last December; I expected to get a letter before this. I suppose he has not been in an engagement yet or he would have mentioned it. Some of the boys who left Windsor are in [Netly?] hospital Southampton now. Young [Raddon?] got four or five bullets in him, and according to the papers is unfit for further service. I am on holidays now. School closed last Thursday and opens on Monday the 23, I am staying at Woodslee during the holidays and if ever there was a lonesome place I think Woodslee is it. It is not what it used to be at all and there are very few young people here now. I would certainly be better teaching than laying around this town. However it is only a week and there was an entertainment in church last night and another one tonight so that helps to pass the time away. The folks here are all well. The boys from Leamington are visiting here. Annie is visiting in St Thomas. Uncle and Aunt spent Saturday & Sunday and Monday at Windsor. They are talking about Sara Duncan intending going home at July and they are [coaxing?] Belle to go with her if she goes. Belle does not say whether she will go or not. I don't think you may expect me home this year for several reasons. First I have not the money to spare secondly, there are only two months holidays and that would only leave me about [6?] weeks to stay. and $120 or $130 is to [too?] much to spend for a weeks. I did intend going this year but my salary is not very large and I did not save very much money so I think I must defer my visit to some more convenient time. I may take part of my holidays and visit in New York and Philadelphia if I can find any friends there. I would certainly like to go home but I would want more than a few weeks unless the place is [terribly?] changed. I suppose I shall find some changes in the appearance of the farm. The change in the lower fields should look well. The only thing I despise about the whole concern is the way the cow stables etc are arranged so near the house, etc. One would hate to take any of their friends from here over there because it is better for them to be in ignorance than to find out the way in which a large number of the Irish people live. I have not sent that picture yet. I will do so this week. I got some good ones taken last week, one dozen and a half at $4. I had a good notion to send all my Uncles and Aunts one each, but some of them might burn them if they got one. These large pictures that I have sent you don't forget to get them framed as they soon spoil otherwise. You should have quite a collection of Canadian boys and girls now as I have sent several of these pictures, [Well] I think I have said all that I have to say.
