| Transcript | [Front of Envelope] Miss Liza [C?] Smyth Castledamph Plumbridge Co Tyrone Ireland [Stamp torn off] [Page 1] 98 Church St [Kilchener?] Ont [Ontario?] Nov 11th 1918 Dear Sister Just a few words only. Your letter to hand on Saturday. I have not received the one from John as yet. This is a note on the great day for which we have been looking for for 4 years - The end of the War Peace. But apparently from the papers they are crying Peace Peace in Germany and there is no peace. We had a great celebration on Thursday. It was announced there that War was ended. All schools and everything were closed down. People [surged?] the Streets all day, shouting singing, crying; all kinds of [verses?] This morning peace was officially announced The Streets are full of people all morning. The bells and whistles started about 7am It is still going. A large procession [Page 2] starts at 2 p.m. It is now half past one. But I determined I would write this short note before I would go up town again. The joyfulness is in full swing all morning. I was talking to a man this morning. He told me his two boys are both safe yet although he said they were over there four years. I saw another old lady she was crying and on being asked why she said she was crying for joy although she had lost two sons I suppose outside of Leslie [Allison?] we have lost none. Let us all be glad & thankful The [slaying?] is over. We dismissed school, after singing God Save the King. Rule Britannia, Keep the Home fires burning till the boy (sic) come home.
