Dear Brother
I suppose by
this time you have heard
the mishap I met with I
told Mary to let you
know how I was getting
along I am going out
to morrow [tomorrow] I am almost
better now I have a pain
in my chest & back
my [thumb?] is not quite
healed up yet but it
will be in a week or so

[Page 2]
It was a great accident
I wonder I was not
killed the [there?] are always
mercy mixed up with
everything it was so here
I have an [a---?] in my
forehead it comes down
about 1 1/2 inches below the
hair Im [I'm] afraid the hair
will not grow on this cut
either but thats [that's] nothing
when you take every
thing into consideration
If you saw the place I
went through you would
wonder I had a great
many out to see me

[Page 3]
Bob Duncan Ballindrate
[Ballindrait?] wants me out
to stop a night with him before
I go home so I intend to go
out to morrow I am getting
out so you might say I
got on well they were very
much afraid of my [head?]
In case it would turn to
something worse however
It was not allowed to
be so I have great reason
to be thankful I am not
up in [Badloney?] today
It just might as well
been the one thing as the
other when you look at
it both ways

[Page 4]
You might say they were
annoyed at home when they
heard it Mother was the
worst as usual it was
not much wonder the
way it was in the paper
I had to cry myself when
I read it out of the paper
I sent it to Mary so you
can see it Just what
happened me I got 7
stitches in my head two in
my cheek 3 in my thumb the [there?]
will be a blue stroke in
my skull[?] about 2 1/2 inches
long its not very conspicios
[conspicuous?] except when you are
very closes [close?] I think I have
give all the news I will write soon
again
Good By [Bye?] Your Brother
J C Smyth
