| Transcript | (3 Letters) Envelope addressed to:- Mr. James A Smyth Essex Essex County Ontario Canada Postmarked on Front:- NEWTOWNSTEWART 10PM JU 9 97 (Written on Front) Aus June 26th 1897 Postmarked on Back of Envelope:- ESSEX JU 19 97 HAMILTON JU 19th 97 PLUMBRIDGE JU 9 97 Letter 1 Castledamph June 8th 1897 Dear Brother In answer to your letter which we received on the 7th and are glad to hear of you getting along so well with your school work. You talk about it been very ill I think if I had nothing else to do run (sic) to school I would be a good scholar. I don t think I need mention school to them any more when I would not get putting up my days two years ago. I mightned [might not?] think I would be let put them up now. I don t think I would be good enough as a moniter [monitor?] for you either well I think I have given you enough about that. We had the band gathered up on friday evening last they are for the plum again. Friday next the [they?] are to be gathered at Five o clock. They have ten shilling that they got from Archie Barker when he was at home and we will get glasses a piece and your glass may lay over to some other time so they will arrang [arrange?] about the Jubilee. James Houston was over on Sunday evening and he was saying that Mr. Duncan said for to take the Tar Barrel to the Mote and rise the illumination there. I think it would be a very good place for we would be seen for miles around and on the same place we would see for miles around. I suppose Drums Guns and all be on this prominent Place some of them was saying William Duncan s Hill would be good enough but it would not be seen as far as the mote. I m not sure which of the places they will go to yet as far as that other Holiday goes. The Demonstration as I was telling you will be at Newtownstewart so that will be two Holidays we will have this year. Well Uncle James Has got His hill wired all along the road side. But they [there?] were a good deal of the posts stolen [&?] Him & Tomy [Tommy?] Hay is coming over for the Twelfth July. He was to go out to India in June but I think He wont go to August or September so He may Bid fair well [farewell?] to Ireland. Well I will tell you something about the farm we have none of our turnips in yet. But we have got all our potatoes shoveled. Alex McKernan came to us one day. Tomy [Tommy?] and Andrew McClelland bought 30 Sheep in means in plum fair at about twelve each. They have them all shorn but they [the?] ewes and lambs. We have about 75 head this year. But not very many lambs. McClellands has a good deal of there s [theirs?] on grass an [and?] paying for them every year.
