| Transcript | Envelope addressed to: - Mr James Alex Smyth South Woodslee Box 23 Essex County Ontario Canada Postmarked: - [- Ireland?] [-?] [-?] 1892 Postmarked on Back: - Hamilton Ont Canada Ju 20 92 Plumbridge Ju 9 92 [South WCod---?] June 9th 1892 Castledamph Dear James I supose [suppose?] you think it long cince [since?] we last wrote to you So it is I wrote none Since tillie and Willie John left here nor we hae [have?] get [got?] none since they left here - we think you have forgot to write or the [they?] have not come this length - I thought the [there?] were [was?] no use in writing [writing?] for some time as they would be able to give you all the news of the country - Dear James we had had a very Dry Spring I never saw the ground so dry - up to the 12th of May the rain came on that evening just as we were finishing cutting the turf we were wett [wet?] comming [coming?] home cince [since?] that up till Monday we had very wett [wet?] weather some [heavy?] rain these Days is terrible (sic) warm we are hardly able to work we have the limekill [limekiln?] Burning to Day. We will have the turnips up in the whins all above the new road - its hard to manufacture - the young sow [is?] just going to pig while I am writting [writing?] I sold two cows this year and bought one tomy [Tommy?] is clipping the sheep to Day he had down [done?] 16 of them this morning some of them will tell you all about them in the next letter - I cannot take much time at this one as I have to attend the pig and the limekill [limekiln?] we are all in good helth [health?] at present your Aunt has got cassie letter (sic) they they are all well - Andrew Campbell's daughter Maggie Eden Mill - is Dead old Mary McKelvey is Dead to day Dear Brother I think father will not get time to finish this letter in time for the post so I will have to do it The Band was gathered for the first time on Friday evening last I think they were nearly all present except one or two they will practice once a week untill [until?] the twelfth they do not know where they will go this year yet but I think that they wont go so far as they went every other year if they can help it We have very hot weather here this last few days I think that it is as warm here as it is over with you the people in this country is all at the turnips and a good time it is for them and turf also we have got none of the turf spread yet nor hardly anybody else it was so wet since they were cut that you could do nothing with them until now.
