[Received?] January 10th 1893 Answered 10th January [Back of Envelope] [Stamped] PLUMBRIDGE C DE 29 92 [Stamped] [WOODSLEE?] JA [12?] [Letter 1] [Page 1] No 1 29th December 1892 Castledamph Dear James Once more I take the pleasure of writing again to you we are all in good helth [health?] at present and we hope this note will find yous [you?] all the same We have now some very hard frost I have measured it this day 3 inches for two nights and appears to continue for some time Christmas is over and very little talk about it not a shot was fired not a targate [target?] set up in any place that is on Monday all they [the?] young fellows gathered in Elkins field and played [Cammon?] the whole day they were prety [pretty?] tired next day. [Page 2] As far as shooting there is very little of that unless Alex Duncan he keeps his gun licensed still him and William took one day through Drumnaspar and on to Barness with the heist they got 4 rabbits for their day as for fishing we don’t go till [to?] it at all. Joseph Gilky [Gilkinson] and tomy [Tommy?] McFarland killed 6 before they joined to play Common with the others McConnell is keeper and you may be shure [sure?] if he would Get any of us he would not miss the Swearing and what he would not See. there is some good Body to tell him and people you would not think nor suspect to do it [Page 3] With regard to the [rest?] they were [sic] not much drink on either Reid shouted for home ruleand that was the cause of the Battle which ended in a Broken leg and cut heads [D connon?] [sic] oath was that A.[Alex Duncans cuts was the Deepest Reid is not up yet I don’t know whither it will be tried at this Bench or not. The [there?] are no [sic] summons issued yet The [There?] are a lot of names mentioned to be summoned William and tomy [Tommy?] had nothing to do with it although they are blamed for striking it has raised some animosity through Eden and Castledamph and I am afraid [sic ] is not all over yet as the McKelveys has took an active part [Page 4] I had one acre of flax in James Hays and the Blackland and the other side of the pad one rent day will be on the 19th January we have got good time this year James Young home has auctioned all the land for croping [cropping?] some of it went £6.0.0 Stock crop and everything went up to it’s highest I got nothing. Elisa Campbell auctioned her land for croping [cropping?] same day I am sad to tell you Joseph Young is going to Cotland [Scotland?] so we will miss a good player of the drum. Uncle James is going to auction the land for croping [cropping?] and grazing this year too I don’t know the time yet Robert Ballantine [Ballantyne?] I hear this day is going to auction out his farm and everything. The McKelveys in Glenrone [Glenroan?] is going to let there [their?] farm for croping [cropping?] so you see there is no want of auctions Tatchel Campbell is making a fortune at it I heard him say he made £40.0.0 in one day at one shilling to every pound J.J.S.
