[Written across top] Ans [Answered?] Dec 1 98 J A Smyth [Page 1] Casteldamph, No [Nov?] 20th 95 Dear James, A few lines to let you know we are all well at present Your letter of S.S.[Parisian?] arived [arrived?] No [Nov] 13th and give [gave?] us all pleasure to know that you were almost landed We had the retourn [return?] on Monday 4th it was wired from there on friday the 4th So that we had the news early of your Saifty [safety?] - your last letter arived [arrived?] on the 16th so we are very glad to know that yous [you?] are all at home safe and I supose [suppose?] sound it was a very quick passage I think as any on record the time is nothing only for the Danger on the Ocian [Ocean?]. [Page 2] [Our?] snow storm did not last to [too?] long after I wrote we have very wett [wet?] weather now - But the [there?] [sic] are not much to do - the potatoes was all got up - I have done nothing but a [few?] days on the road my arm an [and?] sholder [shoulder?] is not as well as it was - But I am going about still doing something - We got the material for the road measured long ago he did not measure the heep [heap?] at the Bridge I think we had to [too?] manny [many?] we have some of it scattered Dear James I attended the county meeting at Omagh on the 4th - William and James Campbell - went with me - I was nomore [no more?] nor able to go But they said they could not do without me - we putt [put?] out Jas [James?] Duncan for life for the [evening?] he [Seat?] yous [you?] in the Plum [Plumbridge?] fair – [Page 3] they Sold the remender [remainder?] of the sheep in Gortin fair that is what they had to spear [spend?] they got 15s 6d per head But they had to take a note for the money John Hugh Brine [Brien?] got them they have all the others with him but the lambs well I must tell you that he Bought a trap in gortin fairday at £11 0 0 and he is getting harness made with Gream [Graham?] in Gortin at £6 - so that will be £17 - 0 - 0 for all - it is made by the Newtownstewart man so I think if ever any of you Woodslee people comes Back we will be able to Drive you any place without having to Borrow They [the?] Miss Dunbarrs [Dunbars?] was up once cince [since?] you left. There [their?] mother was up and brought up there [their?] piano with hir [her?] the [they?] invited your mother and me down [Page 4] So we went down on Monday night we had a nice night May [Pane?] played played [sic] and sang a good many songs She can play well - So when the lads goes down now The [they?] will have some music - hir [her?] and mother was up in our [?] house last night and we had a good night we your letters was read to them I cannot tell you much how the arguements [arguments?] go on Down below but I am sary [sorry?] to say Andrew Ballantine has lost a good horse worth £20 - So he will be out of hart [heart?] for a little as for the tricks about the school the [there?] are not any played cince [since?] you left they have commenced a practice class in the school every friday night last friday was the first night [Page 5] I forgot they sold 5 sheep to James McColgin at 15s each - So I think they have made quite a [red?] up on them.
