Castledamph March 15th 97-

Dear James -
I take the pleasure
of writting [writing?] a few lines to
let you- know we are all in good helth
[health?] at present - we received your
letter of Feb 25th on March 12th and we
are glad to know that you are Dowing
[doing?] so well We also got two papers –
its interesting to know that you are
Dowing [doing?] well we hope you will
come out well again July - be of good
courage and Do your best in all ways
and may god instruct guide and
Direct you in all your Doeings [doings?]
is the prayer of you [your?] people at
home So that your time and labour may
not be lost Neither Spent in vain.
But will have good Success in the end

The weather is [sic] past everything with
rain we can get nothing Done on
the land you could not go through
it alone to plough its now the 16th
and very little ploughed - I am
afraid it will be a late Seedtime
turff [turf?] is very Scarce at 4S
[shillings?] per load Sheep is suffering
By the continual rain - The mountains is
[are?] covered with snow and rain in the
Bottoms so its a poor Spring as yet
Will will [sic] send you a paper with
this letter that will give you all
about the assizes you will see
about roads and every thing [everything?] –
Roads is [sic] not going to be made
handy any more William Orr
lost £7 - of his at Omagh Joseph Harry
- lost all his and nearly
every man [everyman?] lost more or less--
some got them [torn?] --

Dear James - I will now send you
five pounds this time as anything
above £5 would cost as much as
$10 - so you need not be afraid
of the money so long as you are
learning - William Tom and them
all is [sic] just as keen for sending
you plenty as what you [your?] Mother
or me is- So I hope your time
will not be lost neither to us nor
yourself -
James Huston [Houston?] received your
letter he come [sic] over with it he comes
over regular [sic] to hear your letters
and is glad to know that you are
Dowing [doing?] so well - Willie J. [John?]
says he will give you a long letter about
his we [wee?] Da - and his sore legs -
he is wireing [wirering?] in the [Crocken Dunns?]
he will have it Enclosed this Summer
So every Mans [everyman’s?] Sheep has to keep to him
Self [himself?] for the time to come -

You need not mind answering our letters as you get them
monthly will do

March 18th 97
Dear Brother
I have got to
finish this letter as father is
going to the Plum [Plumbridge?] and has no
time he will send you the money
to day [today?] They got the road money on
Tuesday £33 altogether they did not
get the £10 nor I dont think they will, we
are sorry for keeping you wanting [sic?] so
long but I hope you will have it in
time again Eliza and me will send
you £2 about Easter to buy anything
you want.. We will send the Daffodil
to day [today?] if its opened right, I told
Willie to give you a description of it
There was another quilting in this
town on Tuesday 9th in Moses [Ballantines?]
it was another good night there
was about 30 present we left at
six in the morning after a good night
fun We had William Noble here
last night so we had some music
with him and John and Mary I will
have to close and not have the
letter too heavy like the last
we will write next week again.
