Transcript | [Front of Envelope] < [Mr J A Smyth?] South Woodslee Essex County Ontario Canada [Handwritten beside address] Ans [Answered?] Aug 1898 [Back of Envelope] [Stamped] PLUMBRIDGE B AU 04 98 [Handwritten sideways] 204 Dundas 250 Queens [Avenue?] (best) $35-0 [Page 1] August 4th 98 Castledamph My Dear James In answer of your [sic] which we rec [received?] all wright [right?] on on [sic] Monday the first of Aug and all the papers the same day - and which give us a good lot of news every way - you had a hard time of it and by the appearance of the papers the [they?] were all in pretty ill to do I think the people here knows very little about them J Houston came over to hear your letter and Eliza had to take papers & a letter on to Mrs and Miss Dunn [would?] hear it and see the papers She thinks if you were in this country now that you could keep yourself going with prizes at the examination as there is plenty gets born to [25?] [50?] But perhaps they are better than you are yet [Page 2] you will be the better of a little while now to rest yourself. But I supose [suppose?] you will hardly get it we think you have done very well. For your time as you might count nothing on all. The learning you get here will you go on another year or what do you think will you do as we can give you know [no?] advice on this - that is with regard to what till [sic] do - as you know Best yourself - if you think of going on again we will try and keep you going another year But you can form no opinion untill [until?] you get the account of the examination and see how you have done. What Does your uncle and aunt think or what would they advise you till do they are right to be abel [able?] to give you a good advice at how to proceed in the future [Page 3] But dont loose courage now no matter whither [whether?] you come out all wright [right?] or not try again is a good maxim especially [especially?] in anything thats good and for a good purpose - when you get the account of the examination Send it over and what you think of dowing [doing?] - and what time you need any More Money - and where to make it payable do not Keep Back nor loose courage no matter what happens so long as you have your helth [health?] So I think this is anough [enough?] on this well we have our hay all cut in July we have the meadow at the Burn up the other is all [lossed?] and the weather is now changed and it may not be got up for a while now [Page 4] [---?] people in this county are all well. nothing new - to send you the meal and flour is Come Down again as the war is almost over meal and flour went up to a great hight [height?] when the war commenced But now its as low as ever wich [which?] we are not sorrow [sorry?] for- We had no sheep in Gortin fair the day before was very wet and they could not be gathered Tom and William was in it - we have some thoughts of going to the Shore to the Downhill - we all join in sending our Love to all our friends Both young and old nomore at present Yours John J Smyth [John James Smyth?] |
