My Dear James
your letter to hand
this morning friday 22 - glad to
know that you have the last of
your exam over you you (sic) must have
had a hard time of it - But what
of it all if you have come out all
wright [right?] - it was just in time this
morning for them to read it before
the [they?] left William Bella Elisa & Mary
went off to [Grange?] they wrote for
them to go down some day So they
went down to day [today?] - not much
talk here about Crisc [Christmas?] - the war
is all the talk. Thomas Hay is out
in it he is in the infirmry [infirmary?] with Drinking
Bad watter [water?] he is in Pettermaritzburg
[Pietermaritzburg?] perhaps [moundy?] nothing But about
the war in this country -

I am glad you got the money
in time before you left [there?] -
sorry the picture was abused -
the last days is comming [coming?] for lodging
claims against A Duncan
the end of December - we had a
meeting Down in James Hustons [Houston's?] P.B. [Plumbridge?]
atorney [attorney?] Carson has said the £927 - is
only worth £20 5s - now - so we intend
to lodge our claim for the full amount
win or loss [lose?] - plenty of people is almost
put out of there [their?] land paying up
Barney [had?] McCullough has had to sell
his Willie Huston [Houston?] [Watterside?] has it
at £150 - that is all the lower part of
it he has the upper part yet John [Hugah?]
Brine [Glenedan?] is going to £100 is
against it - and plenty of people
had to cleear [clear?] up - thank god we had
nothing to give him I wonder his Bons [bones?]
can rest in the grave the [there?] are so much talk
Did they ever tell you that Robert
McFarland Burness - is prossed [prosecuted?] for £70
By Bidy the Binder for a child -
the Dipping went wrong with him
I think the Sessions will be about
12 January - we got the last road
money all wright [right?]- £16 - we have £32 to get
yet if we get it all. tom and Jamy is
on it these days - the assistant is
never off it times is changed now
with roadmaking - could the [there?] be
no posts of any kind got in that
would pay as well as there or
would you rather be where you
are. We have sent you a few papers
this last while we will send you
some more if we see anything in them
how are you now for money had
you enough to pay all before
you left the [£120?] was all we had
at that time or we would (sic) sent
more - you can let us know how

Some of the others will
write next week and give
you all the News of the Day
we have our rent paid and all
cleared up so I think that not Bad
we have not got the flax Done yet
its up till 5 pounds So we will loose [lose?]
nothing by young land - I was often
to write to William But I never wrote
yet I will write some time Give our
love to all our friends I wish you
all a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year - You will excuse this
writting [writing?] as I am in a hury [hurry?]
- and no wone [one?] about
All in good helth [health?]

hopping [hoping?] to hear good news shortly
