You know I came down to see my little cousin. Cass has got a young son on Tuesday 13th So as I never saw a young baby I thought I would come down and see this one. Well as I told Bella about the party last [night?] that I was invited to. I did go and enjoyed myself very well. There was over fifty there and there were always 20 couple (sic) or more on the floor at once. They dance Lancers, waltzes, two Steps, scotish [scottish?], I danced nothing but the lancers. I have not learned to dance the other yet, It was the first Canadian dance I have Ever been at since I came, and the first dance I have ever danced since I left home with the exception of a few turns on the floor alone. We went there at 8-30 and dancing was kept up till after one. I feel [-ought?] today I did not sleep when I did go to bed and I got up at 10 o clock with a headache and a lot of other complaints owing to not being used sitting up so late. I can t stand sitting up late as well as I used too. We had breakfast at 10-30 and then dinner at 4-30 So you see I have only got two meals today. But I intend to have a lunch before retiring to bed. I intended to send you my invitation card but as my envelope is too small, I will therefore give it to You in my own writing As follows, Assembly The Bachelor s of Essex request the pleasure of Miss Smyth s Company on Friday Evening Jan 16th at Eight o clock Town Hall Essex Dancing, 8 till 12, E. Richardson, Hon, Sec. This is just to let you see the style of their invitation, I wore my white silk waist and black skirt and a cresent [crescent?] but not my own. There were a good many dressed in white and other appropriate colors. Well now I must give you a description of our Canadian weather. My it was awful cold Monday 50 below zero. It was that cold that Uncle says that one of his ears was frozen stiff only coming half a mile. I went to school that day and I was afraid of my ears freezing and in school we wore our coats all day and stood all around the stoves couldn t keep warm. Next day I didn t go to school I thought I could learn as much by studying at home If you would see the men on the street with long icicles to their beards. It looks comical to see them. I will finish for to night but will complete this Epistle tomorrow Sunday. So Good Bye for tonight. Sunday 5 o clock Bell and I have just come down from Cass s. It is the youngest baby I ever saw, and homely as a hedge fence. They are all pretty well. Aunt [is?} up yet so there are only four of us here. I brought down Bella and Davie s photos last night, Bell says that she would hardly know Bella she don t seem like herself I suppose you are getting along alright with the work. I suppose they will soon be beginning to plough. We have had snow on the ground ever since the day before Xmas. Any amount of skating there is a rink in Essex kept by a man who [floods?] it every night and keeps it clear of snow. There are fifty and sometimes more on nearly every night Admission 10 [p?] I was there two nights just - looking on I haven t learned to skate yet but I [envy?] those who can. I may learn next week if [frost?] continues. I was dreaming last night that I had found $100 and I was in great humour I thought I was alright when I had got plenty of money but I soon found out to be mistaken How is everything there.
