My Dear Sister
A few lines today to let you
know how we are getting along. We have very
nice weather here now but still we have snow.
We had a fire here in town last night a house
burned down belonging to Dr Snell the dentist.
Almost everything burned down. I did not see
it as when the fire whistle blew I got
frightened and couldn't go out His wife "they
say" is in an awful way about all her beautiful
clothes and all burned. She is lovely they had
their house beautifully furnished and it is
all gone. I got two teeth pulled on Monday by
him they were ones that were decayed long ago
so they were achy I thought I would get them
pulled.
I suppose you are all well and I see
that John is able to be around again It was
sad about poor old Wm [William?] McFarland I’m
sure his own people must be sorry for him.
I would like that you could gather me
up a few shillings as I want to get a fur
Everyone here has got one so I will need one
next winter and now is the best time to get them
because you can get them at half price. I dont
like to ask Jim for the money but if you
can spare a little why it will do.

[Page 2]
I was dreaming that you were awful sick
one night I hope it is not true. I dont
hear whether you have got a girl or not yet
I think you had better get one and not work
too hard.
What is Tillie Mc doing is she working
or what I haven't heard from her this long
time. I suppose Lizzie is still going to School
Im in a hurry to get the [this?] away
tonight so excuse bad writing & Mistakes.
I may write again next week.
So good Bye for the Present
M [Mary?] Smyth

I got your paper and last letter. [Jim?] says
you shouldn't write inside the paper for fear
of being caught then to pay £10 so it
would be cheaper in the end to not I
guess I will have [to?] stop it too
Give my love to all hoping all
are well good Bye your
loving sister M [Mary Smyth?]
