[Back of envelope] [Postmarked] NEWTOWNSTEWART AM - 0 FE [?] 02 Handwritten Miss Mary Smyth South Woodslee Feb [13?] 1902 [Page 1] Jan 26th 02 Sunday Dear People Just after coming from Sunday School Cass & Fred is just gone home. Well I [am?] [stained] going to school now started on Tuesday. So you need not expect so many [letters?] from me. As I have to study all the time I have. History & [Physiology?] subjects that I never had [Page 2] before comes hard on me. I have to walk about 1 1/2 miles to school & has [sic] to be there at 9 o clock & today it is raining or rather thawing & the roads are in a horrible state it just minds [reminds?] me on [sic] walking through a ploughed field in wet weather. that much [sticks?] to my shoes that I could hardly lift my feet. We had a little fall of snow Tuesday just sleighing for one day & to day [today?] it is thawing again & a little rain. The [teacher?] is very nice [her?] [stained] name is Miss Jenner near 50 scholars at school [Page 3] & some asbbig [as big?] as me & older. Got a letter from Liza Friday. I was expecting some [-in?] but it hasn't came [come?] yet. I was invited to a party Wed night at Essex but I don't think Ill [I'll?] go as I would [need?] to get a dress. & I don't feel liike [like?] getting one yet. Uncle Aunt & I was at a Social for the Missionary Society on Wednesday night 10ct not much fun only playing games. Belle was out to Leamington Thursday to Saturday. as Annie is moving into their new house she went out to help a little. They hav [have?] a fine house now. Electric light [Page 4] in all the house. It is just grand & the water coming into the house. I expect she will be getting a little [saucy?]. now. Cass was down yesterday making pies as [she?] expected company today but they did not come a Mr & Mrs Jones [live?] not far from here but has sold their place now. & is for moving to near Essex. Mr Jones goes crazy sometimes so I think he is going that way now he feels sorry leaving the place. Part of the family is to [tochchea?] with the same disease the boy the nicest fellow about here takes it once in a while A very nice family the leading ones in all society's [society?] everybody is sorry that they are leaving [Page 5] Uncle has got a bid for his farm $7000 but he wants more Aunt is always complaining about having to work so hard she wants to get of [off?] it. Uncle don't [sic] want to sell but he sees he can't work it himself. Belle don't want to give it up [either?] she says she will go out [to?] work if they do. So everyone has their own bother. Cass was just saying today. that it would [be?] as bad as Mr Jones's when they would [be?] leaving. Only it is so far away it would be a fine place for Tommy or Wm. [William?] but Wm. [William?] would'nt do the "milking" [Page 6] I'm afraid. Well I suppose [Ally?] is settled by now. I was just saiying [saying?] I was unllucky [unlucky?] in every place So much fun at home this [winter?] & not much fun here. This winter besides every other one they say. Before I went to school, I just thought that I was spending my time, & had no fun nor anything else, but, I have some benefit now going to school. Belle angers me sometime [sometimes?], she'll not go out any place, we are invited several places, & now when I am going to school, I won't have time to go. She is just finished [Page 7] saying that she thinks she wont go to Church tonight. She would do fine to be in the nunery [nunnery?]. She is alright in every other respect. But I like to go to Church [Sunday?] ngth [night?] Sunday I think is alway [always?]a long day. I see by your letters that Bella & David has got any amount of parties. That one of Mrs. Nelson is a long time talked about they were for having it before we left but didn't They [The?] Campbell's missed this one. It is getting dark now so had to light the lamp not dark till 6 [oclock?] & some nights later. Jim has'nt come down this [week?] I wrote up to him to send me down a pair of skates as [Page 8] a lot of the young people has been enjoying themselves this last while skating on the river so I intend to have some fun one way or the other. Rob [Fair?] said he would call for us. his father is Irish. one of the boys that is in that Picture They live about 3 or 4 [perches?] from here. I will write Bella next week sometime when I get time I expect she will see all these [sic] anyway. but I'll expect them regular from her. I cant imagine how things look there now I always think it can't be true. I was dreaming last night that I was at home. & Old Gilky is gone at last there will be nomore [no more?] fun with him "Man" as J. Mc says that was a good night. I will write W.J. [Willie John?] sometime [some time?] soon. How is J.C. [John Charles?] getting along as [has?] he got a [raise?] yet I expect I'll need a bycicle [bicycle?] to go to school in sumer [summer?] Ruby [Allison?] is at school her & I [sit?] together The mother is not married yet as he has'nt the house ready. it is like Alex McKel [McKelvey?] sons when the [motor?] came on the old woman.
