Letter 1

Essex, April 20th, 1903
11 o'clock AM

Dear People

Just got back from Woodslee
about an hour ago and I am not going to
School to [until?] after dinner I thought
I would [spend?] my time in writing to you.
This is a beautiful day lovely to be out.
Annie and the boys are for going to Leamington
tonight and they are for packing up all as they
are for going to St.Thos [Thomas?] by the 1st May.
Glenn left me down at the [station?] this morning.
They are getting to be big boys. We were making
arrangements yesterday that Annie and the children
would go over when I go. So some fine morning you
might get a surprise between now and three years when
we would go in on you. I tell you the first thing to do
is to put up a closet What Jim was talking
about. I want you to have that sure. Everything
else would be bad enough but that would be
worse. I would like to go home this summer
but I don't think I will I don't know what
to do after holidays I always get stuck about
that time but I think I shall go to Business
College
I was dreaming last night that I was at
home and that Liza was going to get married
but we were all against it

April 21st: As I suppose you all remember that
this is my birthday. I expected a letter last night
and tonight but has'nt got any. I suppose I will get
it tomorrow when this is posted. It is about 8 [o'clock?]
now and I have not got any studying done yet as after
supper we had some music by a Mr [Daykin?] who
is taking his meals here for a few weeks. He is a
splendid singer. Mr and Mrs Bennett is also here yet They
have not moved into their own house yet as they are
having some work done to it before they are going in to it

This day was quite cold and I have got a cold a coughing
one I had one about a week ago and now I've got another
and I tell you it is not very pleasant. I think I shall
make this do for the present. So Good Bye M [Mary?] Smyth.
