[Public?] School April 18th 02 Dear People I am writing this just before school opens I suppose you will be thinking that I have forgot all about You people but I just have not time. April 28th I had this letter begun long ago but did not take it home with me so May 5th This is the third time for me to start this letter so I hope to [Page 2] get it finished today this is Monday I did not go to school as it is too muddy It rained terrible last night and thunder and lightning There was lightning when Belle and I was coming from Church last night. I don’t get afraid here at all. I think that its because You don’t see any other one afraid. There is thunder and lightning now this last week now and again. Yesterday was a very warm day 80 [degrees?] in the shade. At Sunday school Yesterday they had the windows open and three doors and After All the sweat was running down me. This day is just nice neither hot nor cold Well it is not very long to the wedding now Belle was up in Windsor from Wednesday to Saturday getting a new [waist?] [Page 3] made for the wedding. I am just going to wear my blue dress I expect I’ll be warm with it but it will have to do Cass was telling us that there would be about sixty or seventy if they would all come. Belle and I got a present for her for every one that goes has to have some present We got a lamp $2½ I’ll pay a dollar and Belle will pay the rest of it. Annie and the boys were out last Friday and stopped till Sunday. She is alright again I suppose Tillie McCullough will content herself at home yet I don’t know what they will do for news now when the factory girls are gone Mrs. Mac. will surely think it strange [Page 4] I rec [received?] your letter Friday I see you have got the pot. [potatoes?] in. You would never know where they put in the potatoes here. they put in so little just what does themselves No such boiling of potatoes as is there Well Liza I wish you could get that knive [knife?] again and keep it or if you could send it to me. It has went through a good deal of hands. If I had put my name on it they would not have kept it. I wish I had it now as I have always to borrow one to sharp [sic] pencils. It is two years passed since I went to the Plum [Plumbridge?] on 2nd May and same since W Gilky died and it seems such a short time, On my birthday I did not go to school [sic] stopped at home and made myself the present of a pair of drawers [Page 5] I believe there will soon be no Young people about there There are few young folks about here I think I came in the wrong time, Jim was down Sat. week And Aunt and I left him up on Sunday evg [evening?], My exam. will be on 25 26 27th June I am not very sure whether I’ll pass or not but I hope I do. If I dont that will put an end to my education. Is there going to be any Celebration on the 12’ July there this Year. I have not heard any word about it yet. I don’t know anything about it here atall [at all?]. but we are going up to Windsor the 24 May it is going to be a great day there I expect as good as the 12th July Well I remember the last 12th [Page 6] Well I did not think that it would be the last for a while. I suppose Bella is done with the 12th I expect she will have to stay in now and I suppose Davy is an old man and he will not be playing in the band any more. Thats the fruits of getting married. I’am going to have a [l----?] forenoon I suppose John C is taking some trip out of his bycicle [bicycle?] I expect he should be content now. Well I have given up all hopes of getting one as the boss told me Sunday that it would’nt pay to get one for all the while I would want it I was on horseback here Sat going to learn to ride if I can. We had some fun Sat week riding on Annie’s horse. he is not very big I can’t get on very well so Belle came out and went to show me how she could get on and ride so before she went far she fell off.
