JU26 03 Postmarked on Back: - [NEWTOWNSTEWART?] JY 8 03 Essex, June 23, 1903 Dear people As this is our last day at school we have not very much to do so I thought I would begin a letter to pass the time. Well as I told you before that I was going to a circus on Saturday so we did go and it rained pretty near all day. Oh if you would see the animals all kinds. I had one of the bills to send you with a picture of them all but I [it?] has got mislaid some where and [it?] can't be [found?]. It was something great to see the elephants performing and [also?] the horses. I was not sorry [that?] [I?] [went?] though it was wet It is said to be the best circus in the world "Ringlin Bros." Woodslee June 25th Just arrived here last night through the [mud?]. All well here with the exception of Aunt who is not feeling very well today. I am expecting a letter every day was down to the post this morning but still disappointed. I'm getting tired waiting for the news. They say, "no news is good news so I will have to be content with that. If I get the letter before Jim I'm going to call him up to the telephone and address him as "Hello Uncle Jim. I guess he will do a little scolding for a while but as Andy Mc used to say "things must be someway. This is a very nice day only the roads are somewhat muddy yet on account of so much rain but they will not be very long drying if it continues like to-day. I suppose Mr & Miss James will soon be going on their holidays. I would like to go home and spend mine if I could only come back again. I don't know where I will spend them yet. I hope I don't have to spend them all in Woodslee anyway it is too lonely. I want to go to St. Thomas that is if Annie is not coming up here. I think I will go to Business College after holidays if I can get enough money. Can you supply me with some. I know Jim wont wont (sic) have anymore than enough for himself by the time holidays are over. Cass is getting her baby christened tonight. One of Fred's brothers are also having one so they are getting it done at his house. They are not going to have very many on account of it being so soon after their brother's death. I don't think any of the folks here are going. I am making an underskirt today. I have not got very much to do during holidays I wish I was down where Tillie Mac is I would go in for a little Domestic Science I think. I suppose you are all looking forward to the 12th as usual. I remember how we used to count the days to it. There is no attraction for me now that day. It passes over like the 12th June or of any other month only perhaps I do a little [more?] thinking that day. I don t expect I'll ever hear the sound of the drum when I go to St. Thomas. I suppose this letter will just about get there in time for it so that you can tell them that I would be there only for the ocean between. I would like to be there to see them leaving as I always liked the morning better than the evening. I can imagine them leaving going down the road. I suppose they are practising every Friday night now. I remember how we used to hurry & get the milking done and the calves fed and also the ducks in before the [they?] would come back that is when they went for a walk. Is J. McK leader yet? Play [no. 81 [cl?]?]. Be sure and give me full particulars of it all. Who is going to beat the big drum as I think the big drumers [drummers?] are all gone? I was to an ice cream Social Tuesday night the Brass band was there I always think I'm at home when I hear a band. It always makes me feel good. Well I hope you all have a good time anyway and If I'm not there I will be thinking of what they are doing.
