| Transcript | [Front of envelope] Mr James A Smyth South Woodslee Lock Box 4 Essex County Ontario Canada [Stamped] Newtownstewart 0 JA 19 -- [Postage Stamp] Postage revenue 2 ½ [Written in Pencil at top] [Received?] February 2nd 1873 [Back of envelope] [Stamped] Plumbridge C JA 19 93 [Stamped] [South Woodslee] FE 2 [93?] [Page 1] Castledamph Jan 19th 1893 Dear Brother I now take the pleasure of writing to you again We are all well at present the frost and snow is all away now we have nice green weather at present We tried the young mare in the plough yesterday and she ploughed rightly Uncle James had an auction on saturday it did not do as well as last year he got none of the land [Page 2] Set only six acres and we got five and Jamie hay one of the highest is £3 10s per acre and the lowest £2 10s so I think we will have some work to do this year John huey Brine [Brien?] got his part of Glensass at £1 17s 6d he got none of the cattle or sheep sold Willie gilkison [Gilkinson?] did not get into the asylum the boy that was in before got in again I think William Reid and Alex Duncan will be for this Binch [Bench?] they [the?] police has [have?] not joined to summon yet but I think it will not be long. I think they [the?] police is up seeing him today [Page3] James Reid never spoke to any of us since the fight I was up in Joe gilkys one night about a week after it and she said that much I never was in it since she said if William had done right he would had nine or ten of us in jaol [Jail?] for the [there?] never was nothing of about that budge end but a set of blaggards If I would write all she said it would half fill a news paper. I suppose we will be all summoned they say they [there?] are about twenty to be summoned seven or eight for striking and the rest for witnesses Alex Duncan Knox James Gordon Me and Tomy [Tommy?] Joe Elkin for striking. We were not there at the beginning [beginning?] it was nearly all over [Page 4] when we got there I think We will not go to jaol [jail] but I suppose it all depends on what they will swear the Band has joined to learn this winter we have eight new ones John Charles and Willie Gordon is learning to Drum John charles will be very easy learned the drumers [drummers?] is [sic] not as plenty now as when you were here The [There?] are [sic] going to be a lecture in the meeting house again the 30th of this month the [there?] are about sixteen of us selling tickets I have sold seventeen James Huston [Houston?] Plumbridge and David Dunbar has took out licence for to be auctioners [auctioneers?] [patched?] Campbell has made about 3 or 4 Hundred pounds since he commenced I have no more to tell you at present William Smyth Transcribed by Chris Devenney |
