My Dear Sir after my best respects to
you and your Father & his familey [family?]
I would inform you that Granpap [Grandfather?]
reseived [received?] a Letter from his brother on
Monday evening last & in it you
interduced [introduced?] Your Self [yourself?] to me before gowing [going?]
father [further?] I must tender you my sincear [sincere?]
thanks for the harty [hearty?] invatation [invitation?] you
gaive [gave?] me to keep up an acquaintance
with you althou [although?] ye [you?] live many miles
apart we can still form a friendship
which will not be broke by nowing [knowing?] each
others falts [faults?]. Granpap [Grandfather?] & I are well at
presant [present?] & do sincearley [sincerely?] hope theas [these?] few
lines will find you and your friends
enjoying the same gods blessing before
gowing [going?] farther [further?] I would give you a
discription [description?] of Strasburg the place where
I was born & raised in it is pleasantly
situated on an elevated piece of
of ground about eight miles from Lancaster
the County Seat & about 60 from Philadelphia
the Citizens are about makeing [making?] a Railroad
to interieect [interconnect?] Philadelphia which will add
greatly to the buisness [business?] of the place
it has a population of about one
thousand we have 8 Stores here & Tavern
& a Variety of Shops I am clerking
in one of the Stores and I like this very
well as man can make from $8.00
to $16.00 per month which will keep
him deasant [decent?] & comfortably a young
man whoe [who?] wants to work can always
get imployment [employment?] every thing [everything?] brings
a good price here on last Saturday
I saw 20 acres of Land sell from $2,50.00
per acre potatoes sell from 50 to 75 ct [cents?] per bushel
and not very plenty at that fruit is generaly [generally?]
scarce; this country is in a prosperous
state at presanat [present?] every thing [everything?] brings a
a good price & labour also you will pleas [please?]
excuse this Letter as I am kept very buisy [busy?]
I cannot write three lines without
beang [being?] caled [called?] away and you now [know?] it
is not very pleasant to be disturbed
while writing now I must gow [go?] again
once more I take up my pen to

your corospondance [correspondence?] I have had and still
a great desire to sea [see?] Ireland & if I
live and keep my helth [health?] I think I will
sea [see?] it, As respecting your brother
that died in this county Granpap [Grandfather?]
nor I have herd [heard?] nothing of him nor
his concerns since his death we have
written severl [several?] times to him (Mr Wm [William?]
Moore) but reseived [received?] no anser [answer?] I wrote
to him to send the Trunk to us and
we would send it home I will write
again when I wrote to him I told him
how to send it &c but he has not
done it yet he Mr Moore lives about
2000 miles from here I will do
all I can to get the Trunk for your
Father & the money also Granpap [Grandfather?] &
Margret Mary Ann my sister & myeslf [myself?] join
togather [together?] in sending our love to all
