| Transcript | Pontiac Feb 24th 1889 Dear Sister I have waited until sunday so I could have lots of time to write you a long letter and to congratulate you on that affectionate epithet that cousin will [Will?] bestowed upon himself for your benefit he is very free in his sentiments which to my mind are too freely expressed to be genuine But I may be mistaken I have not said anything more to the Dr about you But I tell you what I have done written a letter to the Supt [superintendent?] of the Asylum in Toledo to day written it in your name and shall wait anxiously for an answer if they [the?] answer is favourable and you go there and like it I shall join you in a short time it is a mistake on your part about Jacksons folks writing to the Dr they calculated on taking two Attendants one in the middle of the month and you at the first there is one going there but there will be a crowd of Attendants just the same they say the first pay the [they?] have in Toledo is 20 Doll [dollars?] by the bye very good pay I blame the Dr for telling me you could come but the smartest of men often overlook themselves I should feel proud for to have to tell the Dr next time he asked me that you got another position Though I doubt not you could have a position here in perhaps a month or two and if you do not like to stay there I doubt not if you could have a place with a dressmakers down town for a month or two it would be expensive for us but I dont want you to bear one insult for I have some money for you and me both [faded] two of us thank God and [Orphans?] too yet we have a friend that will not desert us I do wish I could hear from home I had bad dreams lately hope they are well it is very pleasant on the Hall now that patient that was shut up [faded] Mrs Jackson was up is dead also that Miss Flynn is dead I went to her funeral the Dr had the carriage that contained 8 of us go down and for the first time I entered a Catholic Church it was new just dedicated last Summer and it is fitted with Mortuary and paintings and rare [flowers?] high mas [Mass?] was conducted by the priest assisted by two little boys about ten years the pr [priest?] had on a tunic made of white trimmed with white lace and a large black Cross the service was almost all singing or chanting in Latin accompanied by an organ the seats were without cushion or upholstry [upholstery?] and oh it was freezing cold we drove to the cemetery and just imagine those poor creatures kneeling down in snow and cold to pray by the side of the grave of a friend last Tuesday night Mrs Kelly invited me to a Social at the Grand [Array?] had downtown one of the gentlemen attendants got a large sleigh and we went about 2 day [days?] the [they?] paid our fare we had very nice refreshment served in good order and altogether a pleasant time I went because I felt so blue with disappointment and indeed there is times when I think I am going almost crazy yet then I go [stained] down town or some other place I can send your trunk down after the first so you can have so much ahead write and tell me what you think of my Proposition write soon as possible give my best respects to Willie if you have not written and tell him what I think that he had better beware how he triffles [trifles?] with you and tell him to keep his lovesick sentiments to them that will hear them This letter will try your patience to read yet I have written it in such a hurry my best wishes for your welfare hoping to hear from you very soon your ever affectionate Sister Bell Weir |
