| Transcript | Pontiac August 21 1886 Dear Annie you dont know how glad I was to hear from you I dont feel quite so well to day But I think Ill get better in a few days I was to a picnic on thurs day to Watkins Lake I had a very nice ride It is only about four miles from the Asylum I saw Mr Kelly there he is a very nice man we had a nice dinner lots of lemonade and Sandwiches and Cheese and Cakes and pickels [pickles?] and lots other nice things [go?] There was three of the Attendants with us Mr Kelly was one and a Mr French a Married man two [too?] and the other was not married The [They?] had two Boats and the [they?] could only take out about 3 at once on the lake it is about 3 miles long and a very Beautiful place so I went once with Mr kelly and two patients It was the first time The Boat was on water for a great while so it leeked [leaked?] so it was part full of water so we could not go as far as we wanted But I enjoyed my first Boat ride all the same But I felt little pleasure in anything when I think This day off my father (sic) and where he lays where work and pleasure shall trouble him no more I have a very nice time and can do my work very well for so far but still I am far from happy I was to the Episcopal Church at pontiac last Sunday it is almost like our at home I only wish you were here that you and I could go together as of old I have Been down twon [town?] one afternoon it is only every third day I can go to Church I could In the evening But Service dont Begin till six so I dont care to out (sic) after dark you know very well we did it so we wont Begin now we can go to Singing School every Saturday Night every one Supplied with a Note Book and Every Attendant has got to take all the patients that would like to go from this hall well lib Spoke about me getting a place for Maggie and I dont know what about myself Being here till the month is out I have got no uniform yet so I wont mind about it till the month is in There is only another week now I would like very well to get a place for her here But I want so see how well I will Be liked myself and Maggie Breen is very well But I suppose lib forgot I had a sister But I didnt so you see how I am situated and can do the work But every one cant please the doctors all the particular work that [missing] washing the dishtowels I am well acquainted with most of the Attendants the [they?] all treat me very kindly so if you were only here I would Be content for everything looses [loses?] its charm when you are absent I am sorry I did not see Mrs Megaw But Ill get down some times and then I can see her give my Best Respects to Mrs Jackson and I am very glad I have not to put up with any [fool?] like alfred now read the letter But dont look at the scribble of writing from your own Sister Bell if you write this week send me a doll [dollar?] in the letter not any more money for I might spend it I want to get a pair of slippers |
