| Transcript | Pontiac Dec 13/1886 My own Darling Sister how Sorry I feel to hear of you being treated so while I cannot decieve [deceive?] am perfectly happy enjoying every Blessing which earthly happiness can give Thanks to kind providence who will never forget the orphan or fatherless I firmly trust In his will and guidance to direct my wayward Steps I have just recieved [received?] the paper I hope you did not go to any real trouble about it well I do not know what to advise you to do if I was near you for a few Short hours I could tell you news would make you feel happy at least for a while sufficient to tell you I am well respected and Loved the word Seems Strange yet true I [if?] you feel tired there tell me or if The [They?] do not use you well and Ill try and do Something But it is a very good place - and you are sure of your money and there is Bright days after dark ones I often feel here as If I could not stay one moment longer and the next day it is all over you did wrong to go home with Maggie you know how your friends acted when you were in there [their?] power a good friend is well to be remembered I am glad she is away for I fear She had an Influence over you be kind gentle and [loving?] and do your duty to the uttermost So when you leave The [They?] cannot Say you escaped everthing [everything?] you could Mrs Jackson has been kind do not forget there [their?] kindness if The [They?] did not come to meet you The [They?] have not got humanity enough to do an act of kindness to a fellow creature I did not like Caleb nobody dose [does?] So it is only natural for him to act [angry?] do not mind him There is a god above who will Bring us through this worlds trials I know and feel it There has went 6 [Attendants?] away Since I have Been here So just think of how many Changes there is in this life you may think This is two [too?] much of a lecture but remember we are alone in the world with very few friends and plenty of enemies I very often think of my father and what a consolation it would be to write to him and tell him of our welfare I may not See you for a long time hense [hence?] this long letter I would be very glad if you could send what I said but do not Inconvenience yourself the least the half of the month Is almost up So dont you let Mrs Jackson or any one else know we really kneed [need?] it stick close to Mrs Jackson and dont give her any [unaid?] remember also [B-----?] the [Show?] for Maggie Breen and gave her 26 Dol [Dollars?] also and kept me and you without a cent I say remebear [remember?] too Them that would take me By the Shoulders and put me outdoors take my advice and as long as you are there stay to home and tell it is Mrs Jackson is paying you So your place is with her do not look lightly on what I say I shall not [go?] [d--?] Spring pray [?] it God wills it for me to be here So long I know what it is to stay there and be treated as a servant But there is an end to everthing [everything?] and it will be to that too I will write a letter to home as Soon as I get time and I want you also to write Soon and tell me all the news I Burn all your letters So you need not fear what to write we will have another dance Some day this [week?] So [no?] [more?] from Bell |
