Dear Sister
to day I recieved [received?]
my letter and was not surprised
to hear your sentiments on the
subject of Hotel Keeping I am
glad to tell you I have secured
a position in the Asylum as
night watch last night I went
on duty for the first I like
it very much and like 40 Dol.
[dollars?] a month too I go on
duty ten in the evening and am
through at 5:30 am. I have made
lots of acquaintances [damaged]
them a Christian lady who
was the means of getting me
the position I slept there at
the Asylum today until 12:30
I am going to give up the Hotel
and put the money in the Bank
where it will draw me 6 percent
I had a letter from Billy which
I think will be my last as I
answered it to that effect
I had a proposal of marriage
from a very good young man
who is in Comfortable circumstances
he is very nice looking
Handsome Black eyes and Black
Hair and is very much in earnest
in his regard the lady who is

[Sincere?] Christian Sends [damaged]
regards to you and says she hopes
to see you sometime I am Staying
in the House This evening she
is reading a paper while I
answer that very interesting
letter of yours I had a letter [damaged]

settled The Asylum is so [different?]
from what I expected it is
very nice and the girls seem
very pleasant I had good news
