| Transcript | New York Saturday Feby [February] 11th 1860 My dear Father I got two letters from you all at once and was glad to hear that all was right at home, as it was some time since I heard from you. Caused by the long passages of the steamers. I have not much news. Business here and more especially the Linen past of it is quite dull. I expected to be busier this week than last but this was not the case. All those goods for Boston have arrived I have not heard yet how the parties like them. Perhaps they have not yet passed the custom house. Bernheimer's goods are here but not yet passed. Hughes got that order. They are very rich Jew clothing house. I must try not to lose their custom but they were great friends of Hugh's and will not want to have any more dealings with [G. Mc Shea?] where he is gone; for there is a convection outside that he was treated badly. I could get an order from Ballin but not through G H [SHeo?] as he is offended at [Mr. Jonal?] (like more than a doz [dozen?] others. He proposed to order direct and pay cash. I don't know whether this would do for me or not being in Geo [George?] Stuarts employ [employment?] [but?] it would take nothing out of their [jivekt?] [jacket?] All [parties?] are well satisfied with thier goods it is a pity you could not hav [have?] them more punctual. I am afraid that this is not going to be a good season the imports are too heavy. More than in ['59?] I must try to sell all I can here so as to make myself worth my salary ( it seems to be more difficult to live every day) $5 is gone before you know what is come of it This [vexes?] are a good deal. Greer is not the most agreeable companion [&?] does not care to see any one, selling or being usefull [useful?] but himself. So that instead of being helped forward I am kept back all the time. James Smyth was here this week. He has sent some HKFS [handkerchieves?] which are invoiced at about our former list prices. Much cheaper than [Heinsisiz's?] Thornton Ewing have consigned a case of Damask, Napkin's prices 6 per doz cheaper than ours I hope this will find you all well & that Mamma continues in good health And with love to all at home.
