Dear Cousin
I once more take
the uppertunity [opportunity?] of answering
your kind & welcome letter
which I recieved [received?] some time
ago & glad to find that
you were well hoping that
this will find you enjoying
the same blessing
Thanking you very much
for your nice welcome present
I must say that it is
very kind of you to remember
me so much. I had been
thinking of what I would
send you for a long time
but I did not have any
uppertunity [opportunity?] of
going down as I am working on the
day shift this month
however I selected a
handkerchief [hankerchief?]
I dont know whether
it will suit your taste
or not you say you think
Bella will come to Cala [California?]
next summer & you will
be left in the cold but I
dont want you to think
so I would only be glad to
see you come out here
if you think of coming
why come to fresno &
see your old friend Willie
& you will see if we dont
have a jolly old time
hoping that you will
excuse me for not writing
sooner but I have been
trying to write for the
last two weeks but I dont
leave off work until 6 pm
& then I have the books
to straighten up as I have
to keep account of every
thing I sell. I take in
from $40 to $60 per day for
Coke alone but it will
slack up a a (sic) little after
the days gets long
I had a letter from
home on 7th inst.
I dare say you knew Tom
Simpson of Kilsmallin
[Killsmullan?] he was out
here in the US for three
years & he went home & got
married to an old school girl
of mine Lizzie Jones &
he has absconded to America
& left her that is just
about as much as I expected
of him I used to be in the
same class with him in
in (sic) Sunday School I did
not think very much of
him my fathers folks
had a letter from my brother
in Australia he expects
them to go out this next
Summer my Father wants
me to go home in the
summer but I dont
know as I can go I am
doing very well now so I
think I had better stay with
it for a while anyhow
if I only had some body
to keep me company
in my lonely hours I
would be all right. So
I must conclud [conclude?] by
sending my love &
best regards to yourself
& Bella hoping to
hear from you soon
Good Bye for
a while W J Weir.
to Miss Annie Weir
Mich. [Michigan?]

excuse this scribble
as I am in a hury [hurry?]
