| Transcript | Fresno July 12th 1889 Dear Cousin It is after a long silence I take up my pen to write to you once more to let you know that I have arrived back in Fresno again I dont like the north part as well as I like the valley so now I must tell you why I did not write sooner it is because I did not intend to stay long enough to get an answer I have been here over a month & still I have not had very many uppertunitys [opportunities?] however I hope yous [you?] will excuse me for this time & dont think for a moment that I am ungrateful this is the 12th July so I preferred having my day off today. I had to come in 15 miles this morning I had a good horse and buggy but I was all alone and I will have to go back by myself to [too?] it is a pretty dry way to spend a 12th of July but this may be my last out here. I had a letter from home a few days ago they were all well then except that they were lonely Dear cousin our earthly friends are so few that the loss of one dear one makes a great change. I expect a letter from my Brother in Australia. I have not had one now for over 6 months. I am expecting one every day it is very warm here at present it was about 119ø in the shade on the 4th of July and it is very little cooler since I have seen a good deal of this west coast now I have been up the coast pretty near as far as British Columbia it is pretty nice scenery in the redwoods there is nice cool springs flowing out of the hills in all directions & the Blackberrys [Blackberries?] matted over the ground. harvesting is pretty near through now the hum of the thrasher [thresher?] is heard every where grapes are just ripe and will soon be ready for picking there is going to to (sic) be a plentiful crop this season Dear Annie I wish I had you to ride out with me this afternoon we would have some jolly old talks over the past so I must conclude by sending my best respects to you & Isabella I Remain Your Sincere Cousin William J Weir Fresno To Miss Annie Weir Box 1264 Pontiac excuse scribble as I am in a hurry write soon Good Bye |
