| Transcript | Fresno Oct 30th 89 Dear Cousin It is with pleasure I sit down to write to you in answer to your ever welcome letter which I recieved [received?] a few days ago and glad to find that you were well hoping that this will find you enjoying the same blessing I have not had any letter from home since I came in of the thrashing machine I did not hear anything about Jamey Weir as Yet I wanted him to come out here a year ago but he would not come then we have had a good deal of rain since I wrote to you before but it has cleared off again everything looked parched and dry after a hot day [Si---?] me, but since the rain come vegetation has started everything looks fresh and green and the clear bright blue sky makes one think that it is Spring winter here is the only time one has any pleasure for it is the only time one can go fully clothed you think you were quite safe for making that proposition perhaps if I was closer to you you would not stand up to it I think you are right to never marry a man for his money I am Just of the same opinion as you in that case although I dont think I am any too rich for you yet I dont want any dowery [dowry?] I prefer health to a dowry I can work and earn my [wings?] my wife too most of the boys at home think if a girl has not got 50 st a 100 ÷ she is too good I can save 50 ÷s [at?] the work I am at now in 5 [months?] if I had a little wife out here it would take [very?] little more to [----?] [---?] of us than it takes to keep me at the hotel I have been paying $20 per month at the China restaurant for board alone the board is not to be called extra good I got as good board in Liverpool for 10s per week Dear Cousin I have not had the uppertunity [opportunity?] of having that photograph taken yet but I think I will be on the night shift next month so I can go down in the day time [hoping?] that you will send yours as soon as possible so I want you to give my best regards to Bella and tell her that I am still alive and you dont run the bluff on me too far lest I should take you at your word so I must conclude By sending My best regards to you I remain your Faithful Cousin W.J.
