Dear Cousin
It is with pleasure
I take the opportunity of
answering your kind and
very welcome letter which
I recieved [received?] a few days ago
and also glad to find that
you were well. it affords
me great pleasure to
hear from you as you
are such a sentimental
writer you just suit my
taste I had a letter from
home about the time I got
yours they are all well but
lonely just like myself a great
many of the folks there are
Emmigrating [emigrating?] to
Australia and else where I think
my Fathers Folks will
go out to Australia in
time my Brother [Davy?]
is advising them to
ever since (Mother, D [Died?])
we have been having some
rain lately but the weather
is still beautiful I am
working nights this month
& I will have to work
nights for the next month
I have got foreman on the
night shift and ($5.00)
per month raise I wont
have quite so much work
to do but I will have more
to attend to & all the responsibility
the foreman that had it before
worked 2 years for the company
but he got so he would go
and get drunk and not attend to
everything especially after the
1st of the month he had $65
per month for two years
& he left without a dollar
I have some pictures
that is the reason I was
so long in writing as
I waited until they were
finished so I could send
it this letter hoping to
recieve [receive?] yours
as soon as convenient the
farmers is busy ploughing
& sowing their grain most
of them are done the [they?]
go over the land pretty quick
here one man with an 8 horse
team will plough from 8 to
11 acres per day putting
the seed in as they go
along so it dont take 3
or four teams long to put
in a thousand acres that
is counted a small grain
farm here some of them have as
high as five thousand
acres. I like farming
myself better than any
other Industry & I hope
to have one some where
yet. I dare say yours
will be having some pretty
cold weather in Michigan
just now. I dont think
I want to live in a cold
country any more I
like the heat better than
the cold so now I must
conclude for the present
give my best regards
to bella hoping to hear
from you soon I
remain your Sincere
Cousin
