My Dear Annie

It is with pleasure
I sit down to answer your ever welcome
letter which I recieved [received?] yesterday
morning & very glad to know that you were well
your letters are like the sunshine after rain
they always come to cheer me in my gloomy
hours I felt lonelier than ever I did before
since I have been here & You will believe me
when I get through I suppose Bella told you
about her getting acquainted with a family
the name of Roberts when she was coming
out here they were from Nebraska the eldest
was a school teacher in Nebraska Bella & her
appear to be great chums they live at Selma
a way Station about 16 miles south of here
Bella had her quarterly vacation & come
down to visit them she dropped me a note
saying that she would be down the next day
as she was going to selma she would stop over
a day & see Fresno. I was some what pleased
at the Idea of having the uppertunity [opportunity?]
of meeting a friend of mine in Fresno but the
time was so short that I did not know how to
work to get off as it was election time & it
was so hard to find a man to take my place
however I drove down to see the chief &
told him I wanted a couple of days off ....
