Dear Anne
I thank you very much for
your letter, which I wished much
to answer sooner, but was not able
the delay however enables me to
tell you more about things here
than I could otherwise have done,
so I hope you will excuse it
I was glad & thankful to hear of
your safe arrival in America, and
to find by your letter that you are
doing so well for the time you
have been out - and I trust God
will continue to bless you in soul
as well as body - "Set Him always
before you", and there will be no fear
but that "He will direct your paths
and then you will be blessed-
I was sorry to hear your account of
the way in which Christmas Day is
kept where you are- I was not surprised,
as it seems to be a Presbyterian
place where you are, and the Presbyterians
do not keep it as we do-
I hope this will only cause you to love
your own Church & Prayer Book all
the more - We had a beautiful
day here, bright and pleasant, and the
congregations both early and at noon
were excellent - 89 at the early one,
and 191 at the other, - and between
the two there were 80 communicants
attended the Lord's supper - the
Church was prettily decorated with
evergreens & holly berries, and several
appropriate texts on mossy grounds
in the windows, and two larger
and longer ones, like last year, one in front
of the gallery, & the other over the
Communion table -
We had a nice Sunday School
Examination on 8th November -
Eighty attended, and the answering
was considered very good by the
Clergymen who attended - Mr
Knox had the School room so nice -
by done with Evergreens & mottoes -
there was tea as usual with plenty
of buns and apples, and all seemed
to enjoy their day, and I hope have
been Encouraged by it to work hard
for the future - Between answering
and attendance premiums I
think I had 73 books to give away
on the Sunday before Christmas -
Since then the attendance every Sunday
has been very good, most Sundays
nearly 70, and three or four times
above it - though several of the days
were severe with rain, wind, & snow
- a good many new scholars are
dropping in - Elizabeth Jones now
has a class like Margaret Graham,
And Mr Sterrett has taken a boys
class, so that we are now pretty well
off for teachers -
and now wishing you every blessing
I remain
Your sincere friend
A. Williamson.
I shall be glad to hear from you
whenever you can write, and will reply
as soon after as I am able -
