| Transcript | Mr John Campbell New York 12 July '88 Dr [Dear?] Sir I have your Esteemed favors [8?] [Febr?] & 8th May the [foremen?] shoud [should?] have answerd [answered?] before this tho [though?] I did not [receive?] it to the 11 Feby but was in hopes to [have?] seen You soon myself but from what the gentleman with you has wrote Mr Sadler I fear it wont [be?] soon as I expected. I am much obligd to him for his candor [candour?] on this occasion there has been a fair state of the affairs of the books at his inspection [was?] since his [arrangements?] here, therefore being an honest Man I have not [a doubt?] best he represents them as they realy [really?] are. They have recd [received?] [a large?] [sum] more than the [Partners?] here which ought to be applyd [applied?] to the [Debts?] of the House. Not withs [withstanding?] that my Sister [will?] [show?] you a proposal I deliverd Mr Sadler the 16, Jany [January?] last which no people who were [desirous?] of an imediate [immediate? [sole?] [Settlement?] [could?] object to, but there is no instructions [come?] [out?] inconsequence thereof & you [must?] think this hard considering the [anxiety?] of my Sister for my Return. No doubt Mr Sadler writes you fully by this oppy [opportunity?] therefore unnecessary for me to say anything further on the subject. I think you are right with regard to the Bank it will enable you to wind up your [Cousins?] affairs to advantage & you have not [a?] [friend?] wishes you greater success than [I do?].
