TranscriptDear Matty, New York 3rd [Sept?] 1788
I wrote you the 6 Aug' & [copy?] by way
of Cork & am now favord [favoured?] with yours 27
May & 24 June & from what I have wrote
you & the difficulty in Settling and
so little prospect of geting [getting?] from hence
before Spring. Tho' you & Sisters may
depend I am doing every thing I can
therein. Mr Waddell has not furnished
those objections yet which don't surprise me
I think you was right mentioning
what you did to Mr Morris, also in [taking?]
the Mortgage you mention & shoud [should?] the
[Lot?] be sold purchase it if any way reasonable.
Mr Gordon was the cause of its being taken
from us. Do such affairs as is necessary
to the House untill [until?] I get home. I often
wonderd [wondered?] how your neighbour [made?] [out?]
from the little Business he did. I suppose
Davy lived with them. I am glad to hear
there is a prospect of good crops. We have
had very bad weather along this coast
& the Wetest [wettest?] summer I ever see [here?].
Its a great loss to [the?] [town?] such a man
as Mr Wilson, but its very dangerous for
for (sic) people to goe [go?] too exclusive into
Trade. I shoud [should?] think the [sum?] [you?]
[mention?] necessary for such an undertaking. You
remember Bob Wilson. His father speculated
too far. I have been obliged to [get?] [Impldar?]
& Stuarts Bond [in?] [suit?]. I think it is
[service?] in the end. The ladies that sent
you the Peppers & Peaches last year
are making up some [now?] for you
least there will be a great Scarcity of Aples [apples?].
But you and Mrs [Isaac?] shall have a barel [barrell?]
of the best each. youl [you?] [will?] please to
acquaint him that McCormick has left this place
without ever calling on me & that I find
the Girl left them before their departure
& is now not this [City?] shoud [should?] I find
her I cant not without a power. in hopes
of soon being able to write you further
