| Transcript | Salisbury Centre July 23. 1875 Dear Friends Eliza Jane we are very grateful to you for your long and intelligent letter which gave us such great satisfaction to here from you all we are glad to here from you all from time to time though we must acknowledge our Negligence in writing to you offener [more often?] but I hope you will pardon us on this point but we offen [often?] think of you all many times Mary and me thinks of you all we are anxious to here from you all once more we are glad to inform you that we are all enjoying good health at present thanks be to god for the many blessings he has conferred on us we do acknowledge his grate [great?] Kindness to us ever since we arrived here and I hope he will be our gide [guide?] through all coming time we do feel sad when we think of the Calamity that has befallen our old Neighbours and friends you informed us of many that died and others that moved of to a strange land we thank you for the Newspaper that you sent us it gave us a grate dale of information about the changes that has taken place in our native Country we do sympathyse [sympathise?] with sister Margret in her many trials and trubles [troubles?] she hase [has?] to encounter we wounder [wonder?] some times that these things are so but after all some times perhaps it is all for our good Mary would like to know if the children had any disappointment an if there was any cause for it Mary would like if sister Margret would write us a letter and let us know her troubles or if she has any reason why she would not we wrote a letter to her and had no answer we have wondered why she would not we wonder many times if uncle David and aunt Margret are still alive an if they are still spared on the land of the living it is a grate [great?] blessing the have there Children around them in there old age to take care of them. Robert McClure and family is well we were out there at Christmas and had a good time Thomas D works on the Farm Fred was at school and has a good education and seems to be a very smart young man we have talked a great dale [deal?] to Robert about writing to his Father and Mother he always said he would he said last fall he was going home to spend a couple of months with them but I think he will not Roberts word cannot be depended on Robert might have been a grate [great?] deal better off than he is if he had only attended to his own business but Robert has his failours [failures?] I am in hope that he will do better now he is at home with his family now Mary requested me to let you now how it was with Robert. John Davis is well he got married at New years last to a Miss Carpenter a Yankee he is doing well he has bought a fine Farm and keeps 25 Cows on it we have not herd from Archy he dont write we would like to now how James Kirk is getting in Australia and if you have herd any word from David remember us to Cuson [Cousin?] Margret and Thomas McMullen and if Elisabeth is still alive we are glad to here that cousin James and family are well and doing well remember us to your Brother Thomas William and Samuel write as soon as convenient no more at present but remains your affectionate Friend to death Wm.[William?] Kidd |
