| Transcript | Patrick Laverty Esq. Mechanicksburgh Cumberland County Pennsylvania America Lurgan February the 28th 1842 Dear Uncle I take this opportunity of writing to you to let you know of the Death of my Father he departed this life on the morning of the 23rd of January 1842 after an illness of eleven weeks which he bore with Christian fortitude his complaint was Dropsy though he died before he was Topped. Dear Friend we have sustained a great loss we all thought some months ago that my Mother would go first from her gradual decline of her constitution. she is at present in a very weak state from the late trouble that I have above mentioned I hope that you and My Aunt and all the Famely [Family?] are all well. My Father got a letter written to you shortly before he took his last illness and sent to you by a neighbour that was going to New York of the name of Elliot and we never received an Answer which made us think you were dead. Dear Friend I hope when you receive this that you will write immeadeatly [immediately?] and let my Mother know how you and my Aunt and Famely [Family?] is as She is very uneasy to hear from the Bearer of this letter to New York is an old acquaintance of yours his name is Arthur Kelly Shuttle Maher that was reared in the neighbourhood with you. he is married the second time her Friends is in America there has not been any account from your Sister Mary. this long time we can not tell whether she is living or dead. Michael Reynolds is living at present in Belfast with his daughters his Son Patrick is living in Lurgan teaching School your Brother Arthur wife is still living beside Moira with two of her Daughters, my Brother and me and two of my youngest Sisters is all the famely [family?] my mother has at home only two children belonging to my Sister Mary that is Dead in 1828 the [they?] have been living with us since that time my eldest sister and husband living is in Belfast and has a large Famely [Family?] and my Sister Jane that was left a widdow [widow?] is living beside us and is doing well she has threee [three?] Children. Dear Friends if my Uncle be dead I hope you will write and let us know the first opportunity. So no more at Present From your affectionate Sister and friends, Jane Lawson You will excuse my writing as I only heard a few hours before of his going he called to seee [see?] my mother.
