Do not stop writing altogether as I may have
chances of getting letters down below

My Dear James.
I received your letter the other
day, it was sent after me to montreal where
I was for a few days getting some of my traps
put together to send home by a sailing ship. I
had such a lot of things on hand where there
that I had to let the mail pass without writing
It was a tremendous time since I had
heard from you before that letter I suppose
your last one had been in the Anglo
Saxon. I was dreadfully disappointed to
find when I went to Montreal that my
buffalo head was quite spoiled and was not
able to be stuffed, so that now I have
nothing but his horns, I have also a lot
of skins which I will send home also
two cariboo [caribou?] heads, and a lot of birds
skins however as soon as I have every
thing ready to ship I will send you a
regular invoice of them - We start our own
fishing town this day week, My part as I
think I told you consists of Col. [Colonel?] Lambton
& Col. [Colonel?] Brambton both officers in the Guards
and both very nice fellows, they asked me every
day when I was in Montreal to dine at their
mess and I breakfasted there also every day,
they are here now and dined with me
yesterday at the Club. I think we shall
be away about two months or a little more
and then I am quite determined to make any
way home as fast as possible going by New York
I met two fellows here today we knew in
Belfast, [Bland?] & Dundasa [Dundas?] both 62nd Aven
[Avenue?] I dare say you recollect them, I was
sorry to here you had to sell the horse you
bought from Stamers, I hope this big one
may turn out well, you seem to have
given a [long?] price for such a young one
however if he comes out good it will be
all right - Has Sam Bruce son paid up the
interest yet it is an infernal shame if he
does not pay it up now at once for he knows
that I am paying on overdrawn money
at the Bank - and I would not leave it to
Sam to decide about selling out of the funds
to pay off that Balance but write to Wm [William?]
at once and tell him to sell out as much as
may be required. I am very glad to hear that
Robert is looking and is so much better. he
speaks in a letter I have from him of being
almost inclined not to go abroad this Winter
but that I suppose is all humbug as of
course he must go - The season here now
is getting most dreadfully hot it is almost
impossible to work at all however
when we get down to Mingan it will
be cool enough, I am afraid we
will be a long time there before we get
any fishing but we must go when we
can get a steamer to take us, I hope
we may have and I expect we will have
a very good seasons sport, last season was
fair but we should have far better this
year knowing the flies and the river and
all these sort of things so much better than
last year What do you intend to do this
summer & Wm [William?] Robt [Robert?] going in/or,
Will you get James Bristow to send me
a letter authorizing either any Bank or
any Commercial house in Inchee or [-------?]
to honour my checks [cheques?] upon them for œ200
that will I think be all right so I will
not ask for a credit for more than
œ200, I would send duplicates of the
letter in case one goes astray, And if
you send them the first mail in July they
will be here time enough for me-
Ever Your Affectionate [brother?]
Samuel Bruce
