TranscriptFrankford December 10th 1822.
Dear sir, A considerable time has elapsed since
I last saw you and in justice you may charge
me with ingratitude for not sending you an
account how matters went with me, in the
interval - after leaving New york I went to
the west of Maryland; where I resided three
months, in an unpleasent part of the Country:
after my departure from that situation,
Pennsylvania seemed more agreeable,and
I again returned to Philadelphia where
my prospects were by no means flattering
during six months, [money?] had been
squandered away and nothing done even,
by living as saving as possible: November 26th
1821 I commenced school in Frankford
Academy, where my prospects have been in a
degree, realized my expences however for the
past year, have not been short of $250.00 but
society in this place, is good and the benefit
[?] [?] [adjacent?] to the city is of importance
during last summer my school, amounted to
40 scholers, and then at an average was worth $400
per annum, but the removal of the citizans to this
town during the summer months augmented it
very considerably, at present however it is not so
full [on account?] of their return yes it is increasing
and since my stay in this place, I have actually [drained?]
the schools around me two letters came from Brother Joseph inviting me
to go to the western Country, stating there was
a probability of success; yes I regret my leaving
New york; as against this time, something handsome
might have been, realized by patience and industry
my situation from Baltimore was 52 miles at
West River, near the Chesapeak [Chesapeake?] bay Joseph mentioned
his desires that, brother John and I should go and
see him, Friends Samuel and John Pollock
are both married, in the western Country.
brother Jonn cannot suit himself in Philadelphia,
so well as in New york and therefore returns again
times here are hard, and little to be made as
any thing a letter was brought to me, by him
[?] [?] [?] [?] thus were all well
your friends in Philadelphia are all well,
except Archibald Neely who does not enjoy good
health, I have nothing particular at present to
mention but desiring, to be remembered to
Mr and Mrs Kennedy, your brother John
and family, Mr Carey and family
I subscribe myself yours truly
Robert McClorg
P S
When you write direct to the care of
Mr Edmond McNaugh, Postmaster
Frankford my respect to Mr [?]
and it is probable my course may be
steered to New york, after sometime as
Classick [Classic?] here are not much relished
Yours with Esteem and respect R Mc
