| Transcript | Yuba City, County California July 16th 1879 Dear cousin Samuel Yours of July [4th?] is at Hand I Received it today and I am glad to hear from you and that you ar [are?] still living and well We are all well at the present time thanks be to god for his [mercies?] This is the first time I have Heared [heard?] from you since you left home that is from yourself I heard from you once from your Cousin H. Mc[Neal?] he came to see me once when he landed hear [here?] He stayed part of a day and left to bring his trunk to my house But never returned again he has wrote to me once or twice but but I was so put out about him gowing [going?] of so short I never answered his last letter and he was at work at a place called Rockland in [placar?] County California when he last wrote me that is two or three years ago My dear cousin Samuel I was on a visit to my friends in the East five years ago I went by the way State of Ills [Illinois?] and from there to New York to see my sister Jane. I had not seen her for twenty years and my aunt Marys family the [they?] live in [rockland?] State of [Illinois?] and when I left New York my sister made me promise to call an [and?] see you so I came back home way of [pa?] [Canteral?] R.R. [Railroad?] thinking to find you at Pitsburg [Pittsburg?] I got to Pitsburg?] [Pittsburg?] with the morning tram and and staid [stayed?] all that day and Hunted Every place but Could not Hear anything of you So I left out of Hart [heart?] I could only stay the one day so my wife had telegraphed for me to come home I should have wrote you long Before this if I had a new [had known?] where to send it to but now since you have written the first I hope you will not stop but will Let me hear from you often and I shall be glad to answer you it is a long time since you and I plaid [played?] together but I think I Should know you if I was to meet you I remember you and How you looked when you was [were?] a boy today Just as good as ever I did I would been glad you letter had a got hear [here?] to days sooner as I Had sent one to mother just two days ago she would be glad to hear from you Cousin Samuel I am glad to hear from you and I am glad that your letter came the time it did for we were just about to start away ower [our?] summer [trip?] [ceess?] [smudge] [mix?] and pleant [pleasant?] we spend a month or six weeks Every year in the Hills at the Soda Springs it does awer [our?] childer [children?] so much good the [they?] come home fat and [keeps?] in good health for the remainder of the year when you write let me know if [Cousin?] Hugh is living and if so where Dear cousin I send you the picture of ower [our?] youngest boy he is eight month month old and weighs 26 lbs wee [we?] have four living and one dead 2 boys and 2 girls the oldest was cald [called?] for father he died when 5 years old - Dear Cousin this is all I have to Say at present hopping [hoping?] to Hear from you soon Yours Truly S.
