LOS ANGELES

Dear Capt. Davis
Needless to say, I am
delighted to get in touch with you.
Please thank the under manager.
Yours of the 5th was waiting
my return home today and has left
me all agog because it is a treat
to be touch with one who commanded
the Dixon ships.
Yes - please do send me
a photograph of your painting of the
Lord Downshire, the same size as the
painting - if possible.
I am enclosing $5.00 to
defray the cost. If this is not enough
kindly tell me and I will remit
the correct amount.
And - if in your peregrinations
you should run into a good painting
of a sailing vessel - say up to œ5 -
I would love to have it.
Ship chandler stores usually
had several on their walls in the old
days & doubtless with the passing of sail
have relegated them to the loft or some
inconspicuous place.

2

If you can pick up such a
painting & will advise me of the cash, I
will remit. No hurry - of course.
