| Transcript | Knocknahinch February 17th 1878 Dear Brother, I have now to inform you of the Death of our dear Father he died on the 11th inst and was buried on the 13th inst. he had kept his bed a long time only rising occasionally but he did not rise for more than three weeks before he died but he was sensible to the last except on some few occasions that he took strange fancies of hearing seeing things that were not real but for the space of 5 or 6 hours before his departure he prayed all the time and I prayed with him and we sang a psalm to him, the Lord God and our neighbours know that we attended to the best of our abilities but I have to tell you that we are all but broken and I fear very much we will have to sell out this last year was a very bad one there was almost no crops at all of any kind by reason of the continual rains, write immediately and give me advice whether to go to you or not I could have at the least a couple of hundred pounds clear with me, tell me would it be much use or what or what could be done there I had another child born since Mother died her name is Ellen I am in great trouble and unable to write any more at present but Mary and all the children join me in sending our love to you and I remain your Affectionate Brother, John McGoogan. |
