Gortin,
N.T.Stewart, [Newtownstewart?]
Co Tyrone

February 27th 1899

Dear James Alexander
I suppose you
thought we were not going
to answer your letter
but I hope you will
excuse us for not writing
sooner. I was working
hard for the examination
and Uncle he was working
very hard some days out
in the country.

[Page 2]
The examination was on
the 17th of Feb [February?] and we all
done (sic) very well. There were
64 for examination & two
were lying sick and could
not come so then there were
only 62 and all passed
Lizzie is in the second
class now and I have
passed out of [6th?] Stage.
There is going to be new
Schools built now very
soon up in the Church-hill.
John Charlie is getting on
at the trade very well I
think he will make a
quick Carpenter. he can
play the violin very well

[Page 3]
& I am learning also. Aunty
says you write such nice
letters she is nearly ashamed
to answer them but Lizzie
says she will soon be
able to write to you.
When Joe Gilkison went
to Glasgow she was very
angry at him she said
he was no friend of hers
now but Tomy [Tommy?] Smyth is
her friend now she says
he is a better boy than
Joe I think Joe was
two weeks their [there?] before he

[Page 4]
got into a place but he
is in a place now &
getting 7 1/2 d an hour so I
think that is pretty good
pay. I think I have
no more to say as Uncle
is going to write a piece
with love from Lizzie
& Aunt

I remain
Your affect. [affectionate?] friend

Maggie McKeown
