Dear Brother
It is a long time since
I have heard from you - that it appears we
have forgot each other - but I fondly hope that these
few lines may find you in good health - I feel
very much hurt that you have not wrote to me of
my Fathers death, nor have I received a letter from you
this 15 months you know that such a serious event
as that - I would not have hid from you but I now
beg of you to write immediatley that I may know
all the particulars - I may bless God that we all
enjoy good health and have escaped that fatal disease
the Cholera which have carried off this summer many
thousands in this city - some days the Board of health
report was from 300 to 400 but we may be
thankful that its savages have eased - and business
has been brisk this Fall - you must excuse me
for not writting [writing?] more fully - but the man
is waiting for these few lines as he hopes to
see his friends in Newton L Vady [Newtownlimavady?]
you will give my love to all my Uncles & Aunts
Cousins and relations - not forgetting my old
neighbours - my wife joins me in sending her
love to you and believe me with true
affections your brother
John McLees

P.S. be sure to insist
of Cousin John Rodgers
to write me the first
opportunity and give me
an account of several things
that time does not permit me
to mention &c with my sincere
love for him
J Mc L
[John Mc Lees?]
