| Transcript | Irishmen in Virginia Belfast, 12th October, 1784 - Extract from a letter respecting America:- "The only good thing I have ever heard from the Virginians is their Citizen Bill. It confers the rights of citizens on Irishmen after residence of two years, which puts them on a level with all the nations in the world except the British Dominions. Englishmen are not naturalised till after residence of five years, and a Scotsman must reside thirty years to qualify him for enjoying the rights of the citizens of Virginia. |
